SCHEDULED EVENTS

Full Moon Drum Jam
Saturday, July 8th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
All are welcome to join the circle - experienced or first timers. There will be some "loaner" drums, but bring your own if you have one. This is a great community event for anyone who would like to experience something a little different. Come join in or just listen or dance. Outside, weather pending... sometimes even a small bonfire... if wind and rain allow.  Free Event.


Writers Read Group
Friday, July 14th, 2:00 - 5:00 pm
Novelists, Poets, Bloggers, Playwrights, Short Story Writers. Come listen. Come Participate! All are welcome. This group is open to the public, as encouragement for other writers, and a window on the creative process. Local writers will read and discuss their works. 'Open mic' for writers.  Free Event.


DJ Mike DANCE PARTY! "Mama Told Me Not To Come"

NEW!!! Science Fiction 'Fourth Fridays'
Friday, July 28th, 5 pm
Science Fiction Lovers Unite! Come join us as David Van Harn, curator of the Boquete Film Club, offers a monthly selection from classic and modern Sci Fi films. Arrive early for the best seats, and bring an appetite… special menu offerings will be available!  Kicking off this new monthly event is the 1927 film: METROPOLIS.

This event is free, but a donation to the Boquete Film Club is encouraged, to help pay off the large-screen TV (and new soon-to-be-updated-and-enhanced Sound System!) which has been purchased for shared community enjoyment.


"Make Art" Sip & Paint
Saturday, July 29th 4:00 - 6:00 pm
Come have fun and make art! You will be instructed in creating a painting, supplies will be included (canvas, paints, brushes)… you will leave with a unique piece of art that YOU created! This event is run by Make Art, a company in David.   Class is taught in English and Spanish by bilingual instructors.  Price is $20 / person and includes a glass of wine, or beer, or soda, or bottle of water. *** reservations are encouraged

Come learn a variety of unique artistic applications, and leave with your own piece of work. Each week Marisol will be instructing on a different topic, including macrame, jewelry making, engraving, etc. Class is taught in Spanish, with a bilingual translator. 4:00 - 6:00 pm — Therapeutic Drumming
Have fun and reap the health benefits of community drumming. No experience necessary and there are usually a few loaner drums available if you don't have one of your own. Drummers and listeners alike -- all are welcome!  Free Event.

(Please note: Therapeutic Drumming will NOT be held on Wednesday, July 5th, in deference to the Full Moon Drum Party on Saturday, July 8th, from 6-8 pm)


THURSDAYS
3:00 - 4:00 pm — Belly Dance Class (w/ live music)
Saroya is back and bellies are shaking! This is a fun way to exercise, shape and tone. Perfect for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Class price is $6.00.

(Please note, Thursday's Dance Nights -- Salsa, Swing & Bachata w/ Instructor Dan -- will not be held during the month of July.  Stay tuned for updates in this arena.) 


FRIDAYS
10:00 am - 12:00 pm — Community Listening
Local 103.3 Radio Shows "Listen Up" and "Strange Brew" will be streamed in the cafe… so come enjoy a cup of coffee, perhaps order some of the Fénix's increasingly famous Banana 'Paleo' Pancakes… and hangout with two great radio shows, back-to-back.  We'll see you there!

This is a new group that has formed! And YOU are invited. Meet other 'senior singles' and co-create a group that will come together to support, share, and mingle. What is a 'senior single'?… well, there are no hard and fast rules, and everyone is welcome… but in general this is a social group for those who may be living or traveling solo, and perhaps those who are a bit older and wiser than those 'young kids these days'… ;-)

Come play with new friends and old! Euchre, Mexican Train... and more! The cafe has Mexican Train sets, playing cards, backgammon, scrabble, "Cards Against Humanity", Trivia, Connect Four... whatever your flavor, it's here!

Basic Spanish

ACQUIRE español in Panamá and have the linguistic skills to engage in the ENTIRE SPANISH-SPEAKING WORLD... start speaking from the first class! This small-group instruction draws upon the most successful approaches used in foreign language instruction, and follows guidelines established by the Common European. Framework of Reference for Languages...CEFR or. CEFRL.. .the only international benchmark for learning, teaching and assessing language

Gangaji: Listen & Discuss w/ Yella 
Starting July 17th, Mondays 2-5 pm
You are invited to join a discussion group that will meet on the porch of the Fénix on Monday afternoons.  (Cafe will be closed.)  Each week the group will listen to a recording of a retreat with Gangaji that will include facilitated discussion after listening.  People interested in knowing more about Gangaji can visit gangaji.org   There is a $5 per person charge each week to cover the cost of rent and facilitation.  Any questions can be directed to Yella: 6887-6108

Learn both the theory and practice of proper stretching techniques for your ability level. Keep joints lubricated. Increase mobility. Release tension. Sustain an active lifestyle.  Feel Good.  

Kristina Long is a registered yoga instructor, a certified massage therapist, as well as a former personal-trainer. She brings an in-depth knowledge of the body, coupled with years of hands-on experience to share. Join her in two 90 sessions to target both lower and upper body.

Price: $12 per session, or 2-sessions for $20

Cafe Operating Hours:
Monday: Cafe Closed, except for yoga, meditation, and special workshops and groups
Tuesday: Cafe is open 8 am - 2:00 pm (market hours 9-12) and closed in the afternoon, except for yoga
Wednesday thru Saturday: 10 am - 6 pm (open later for special events!)
Sunday: 11 am - 4 pm
