The government of Panama is expanding its quarantine to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, effective Wednesday, April 1st, at 5:00AM. Use the same hours and mobility based on last digit of the cedula or passport as is currently in effect -- except that women only are allowed out on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and men only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays. Everyone is to stay home on Sundays. All of this until further notice.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE AMIGOS DE ANIMALES FUNDRAISER

 

We realize that the current health crisis has affected all our friends both in Boquete and around the world.  Amigos de Animales has temporarily suspended its clinics in compliance with the guidelines issued by MINSA, our local health organization.  

 

But we still need your help!  Without our clinics, the animal population in the Boquete community will once again grow and we need your support now more than ever.

 

Due to the current advisories and the uncertain travel time frame, we have extended the deadline for entry to July 3, 2020, and the drawing will be July 4, 2020, when we will really have something to celebrate!

 

First prize is an all-expenses-paid trip to Boquete or a cash prize of $1500!

 

Second prize is seven days' accommodation on the island of Bonaire or $800 cash!

 

Third prize is the opportunity to win one bag a month for a year of the best coffee in the world, our own Boquete grown coffee from various fincas in the Boquete highlands.

[News Boquete] Masks can be disinfected and reused

Newslady Note: This from Dr. Ted Harrison who practices medicine with Dra. Digna Diaz here in Boquete:

Stanford has just put out a study examining the effectiveness of different kinds of masks and the ability to reuse masks after disinfection.
Bottom lines:
1. N95 surgical masks are the best, but masks made from vacuum cleaner bags run a close second. Cotton masks are in the middle of the pack at about 70-75% effectiveness.
2. N95 masks made from Meltblown fiber filtration media are 97% effective and lose only 1-2% effectiveness if steamed in hot water vapor for ten minutes. Coronavirus is heat sensitive.
3. Static-charged cotton masks are about 78% effective and lose virtually none of their effectiveness if steamed in hot water vapor for ten minutes.
4. Alcohol or chlorine-based disinfection of these masks results in marked loss of efficiency.
