BVB Families Receive High-Nutrition Food (And YOU can help!)
A few years ago the BVB team met with a dietician to assess the nutritional value of the food we distribute. Our clients are very poor and most do not have electricity, so the food needs to be not only highly nutritious but also non-perishable. We have also learned that the food we provide must be something they will eat; when we introduce new food items we must often make suggestions on ways to make it more familiar and acceptable to family members.
Our items include KLIM, a fortified dry milk that was developed for use by soldiers in jungle climates. We provide rice and two varieties of dried beans that provide protein when eaten together. Other protein sources are canned fish, sardines, and canned meat. Also included are food staples like flour, salt, pasta, crema and cooking oil. Recently our clients have been receiving a vitamin enriched and fortified rice and soy product called MannaPack. We are so grateful for this generous and special addition to our provision, courtesy of Philip McGuigan's charity Amigos de Boquete Foundation.
You, too, can help us nourish BVB families! Stop by Romero Super Mercado between 9 am and 1 pm on Saturday July 15th to support the BVB Food Drive as we gather specific non-perishable food items or cash donations. Check out the photo below to see what a family receives each month. BVB volunteers will be in front of the store to greet you and answer any of your questions.
Family of the Month
Buenos Vecinos de Boquete provides non-perishable food on a monthly basis to over 100 families and individuals. Included in that count are 58 clients who additionally receive the services of the Handicapped Foundation (Fundacion Pro Integracion). Pictured here (in blue) is Elibia during a home visit by FPI volunteer Loesje.
Elibia was born with autism, cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. She is now 16, and lives with her mother, several siblings and an extended family. Her father is deceased.
The food provided by Buenos Vecinos de Boquete (BVB) takes some of the financial pressure off Elibia's family, who are obviously burdened with the care of this young woman. This food is also nutritionally valuable to the family, particularly with many children to feed. Fundacion Pro Integracion (FPI) steps in with physical therapy, necessary medical transportation, and assistance with medicine. Together our two organizations address critical needs of some of the community's most needy members. We hope you will decide to support our efforts.
If you would like to help families like this and the efforts of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, your financial support would be most appreciated.

IF YOU PREFER TO DONATE BY CASH, Please contact Louise Orr (panamaleo@gmail.com) for arrangements.
When you make that important decision to help feed the less fortunate in our community, you have truly become a "good neighbor". When you donate $360 a year or $30 a month (about the cost of a daily latte), your name will be added to our "Coconut Foundation" as an acknowledgement of your concern and generosity.
Buenos Vecinos de Boquete's wholesale purchase power enables us to furnish our clients more food than they could purchase on their own in the store with the same amount of money.

Thank You!
-Mike and Heidi at Mike's Global Grill for sponsoring a BVB Restaurant Program in May. We hoped to "milk" some donations of KLIM and were successful.
-Generous donors Steve Kingshott, Bill McGraw and Gladys Moreno
-Chris and Justin at Big Daddy's for sponsoring the June BVB Restaurant Program. We went "fishing" for food donations and were not disappointed.
-Nancy and Nairn at N&N Catering who, with the help of Chris and Justin at Big Daddy's, created another benefit to support local charities.
-Susie Brymer urged her friends to donate to their favorite charities in lieu of birthday gifts for her, and BVB was included.
-Germaine and Richard Sturtz organized and conducted a garage sale whose proceeds went to BVB.
The Boquete multi-charity benefit event's new date and details will be announced soon and BVB will be an enthusiastic participant!
