The Tale of the Bridge and the Kittens
"What would you do?"
Dear Animal Lover,
I hope this message finds you well. Today, I want to share a remarkable story—a story that underscores the power of kindness, empathy, and the tireless efforts of individuals who champion the cause of animal welfare. And I ask that you think about "What would you do?"
♥♥ The Tale of the Bridge and the Kittens ♥♥
In the picturesque town of Caldera, nestled amidst rolling hills and winding rivers, there exists a hero named Herlyn. When anyone faces an animal-related crisis, they instinctively reach out to him.
One crisp morning, a young student embarked on her daily journey to school. She rode in her uncle's taxi, a routine she knew well. But fate had other plans. Beside her sat a sack—a mysterious bundle that wriggled and meowed. Curiosity piqued, she asked her uncle, "Tio, may I open the sack? Do these little ones have names?"
Her uncle's response was cold and pragmatic: "No. You must throw them into the river."
The student's heart wrestled with conflicting emotions. School had taught her compassion, and she couldn't bear the thought of harming innocent creatures. Quietly, she untied the sack, allowing the kittens to peek out. An idea sparked within her—a tiny rebellion against cruelty.
As the taxi halted at the bridge, her uncle urged her to hurry. The girl leaped out, sack in hand. With deft precision, she flung it over the bridge—not into the water, but onto a patch of soft grass. She hoped they'd find safety there. Then, with a heavy heart, she resumed her journey to school.
♥♥ A Network of Kindness Unfolds ♥♥
Across the road, Geisy stood waiting for her bus to work. Her eyes widened as the kittens emerged from the sack. Instinctively, she dialed Herlyn, a fellow animal lover. Their conversation was urgent, desperate. But fate intervened once more—a retired teacher emerged from a nearby house.
"Look at the kittens!" Geisy exclaimed. "I have to leave for work, and I don't know how to help them!"
A retired teacher, a friend of Herlyn, stepped forward. "Don't worry," she reassured them. "My family adores cats. We'll care for them."
And so, the kittens found refuge—a warm hearth, gentle hands, and a promise of safety. Herlyn and Geisy visited the teacher's home that afternoon. The kittens, once vulnerable and abandoned, now thrived. Their tiny mews echoed gratitude.
♥♥ A Call to Action ♥♥
As we celebrate this tale of compassion, let us remember that every act of kindness ripples through the world. These kittens—once destined for a cruel fate—now symbolize hope. But our work isn't done. These stories do not always have a happy ending like this one.
At Amigos de Animales we are the preventers. Since 2005 we have sterilized over 27,000 in this area. By preventing unwanted litters, we ensure that no more innocent lives are discarded like yesterday's news.
Through our Educational Outreach program our volunteers are visiting schools to enhance the students' educational experience by providing classes on pet care, animal maintenance, and the benefits of sterilization.
We are expanding that program with a plan to hold 5 sterilization clinics in school areas in 2024. Our goal is to raise $20,000 so that we can do 100 animals for free at each school. Caldera is one of those schools asking for our help.
Now I ask: "What will you do?" I implore you to join hands with us and send us a donation so we can continue to prevent the suffering. Your $40 donation will allow us to sterilize one animal at a school clinic. Amigos de Animales is committed to continue to sterilize animals at school clinics where Herlyn plans to take these kittens for sterilization.
In closing, I urge you to be the bridge—the one that connects compassion to action. Together, we can build a world where every creature, big or small, finds love, care, and a chance to thrive.
