Alert: Demonstrations and Roadblocks Are Subsiding
Protests and roadblocks across Panama are subsiding, and the Embassy has received reports that traffic flow along the Interamerican Highway has begun to normalize. The Embassy has also received reports of increasing access to gasoline, propane, foods, and medicine throughout Panama.
Consular services have returned to normal, and movement restrictions or recommendations to U.S. Embassy employees due to protests and roadblocks have been removed. Existing travel restrictions to parts of the Darien and Mosquito Gulf, however, still apply.
The Embassy will continue to monitor the situation and update U.S. Citizens as needed.
Actions to Consider:
· Avoid demonstrations.
· Exercise caution when traveling.
· Monitor local media for updates.
· Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
· Contact local authorities (dial 911) for any immediate health or safety concerns.
· Register for STEP (link below) and refer to our website for the latest alerts and messages for U.S. citizens.
