When you choose locally fed beef in Panama, it's important to understand the agricultural practices behind it.

🌾 Chemical Use in Panama's Agriculture

Panama's agricultural sector uses high levels of chemical inputs, with serious effects on the environment and human health:

  • Pesticide and Fertilizer Runoff: Agricultural runoff containing toxic chemicals like organophosphates has been identified as a major environmental and health concern, polluting water sources and impacting rural communities (COHA: Water Quality Impairment).

🐄 Chemical Use in Livestock Farming

Cattle ranching is a major agricultural activity in Panama — but it often comes at a heavy cost:

  • Agrochemical Usage: Traditional cattle farming methods rely heavily on chemical sprays to maintain pastures, contributing to soil erosion and environmental damage (Mongabay: Silvopasture in Panama).

  • Antibiotic and Hormone Risks: While specific data for Panama is limited, overuse of antibiotics and hormones in livestock is widespread in developing countries, often leading to harmful residues in meat and contributing to the global issue of antibiotic resistance (PMC: Antimicrobial Use in Livestock).

  • Monthly Toxic Spraying: In Panama, cattle are sprayed monthly with highly toxic chemicals to control ticks. These toxins remain in the animals' systems and ultimately end up in the beef people consume.

🍽️ Why Freeze and Feast Chooses Argentinian Beef

Because of these serious concerns, Freeze and Feast proudly uses imported Argentinian beef, known for its purity and safety.
We work hard to ensure that our beef:

  • Is free of cancer-causing carcinogens

  • Is not exposed to monthly chemical sprays

  • Contains no harmful antibiotic or hormone residues

We believe you deserve food that strengthens your health — not food that risks it.

🐖 Why We Refuse to Use Pork

Did you know that 1 in 10 people get sick each year from pork-related products?
Pigs can carry over 20 different infectious diseases, including Trichinella, Salmonella, and Hepatitis E — even if they look healthy.
At Freeze and Feast, we refuse to serve pork because we will never compromise your health for profit.

[News Boquete] High Level Prepared Meals for only $3.50 -$5.00 per person

Hello Boquete.  Eric here from 2 Guys & A Cooler and the title of this newsletter says it all.  High Level Prepared Meals for only $3.50 -$5.00 per person!  That's right.  In 2025 you can still eat wholesome and delicious food that tastes as if it was freshly cooked in your kitchen for only $3.50 - $5.00 per person 😉.  You heard me right.  Over the last 14 years our customers have found that one of our entrees is enough to feed to adults or make at least 2 dinners out of it.  Talk about great food that affordable.  With that being said if you are a teenager or someone with a large appetite then one of our entrees is the perfect single serving at a very reasonable price..

Let's look at our Tex-Mex inspired Cheesy Taco Casserole.  This dish is bursting with flavor and literally tastes like a taco without the shell.  Ground beef, salsa, enchilada sauce, a cheese sauce, and creamy black beans are all tossed with rotini pasta.  We then smother the top with a generous helping of cheddar cheese.  I hope you have an appetite because this plate has a LOT of food.  Over a pound and a half of delicious eats!!  Enough for 1 -2 adults

Another new item that we have this week is our Fresh Pasta Salad.  This pasta salad can only be described as multidimensional with layers of blooming flavor.  We start with rotini pasta as the base for this delicious meal.  Sliced red onions, black olives, grape tomatoes,  seedless cucumbers, roasted red bell peppers, cubed extra sharp cheddar cheese, and Italian Hard Salami are tossed in with our house crafted Italian Vinegarette.  The end result is a beautiful and delicious pasta salad that's satisfies for any appetite.  This is a fresh pasta salad so please keep it refrigerated and eat within 3-4 days of receiving it.  Feeds 1-2 adults.

We've had so many requests for Cecelia's Pizza, well they are back!!!  This week we have 2 options.  Loaded Pepperoni and Italian Sausage Pizza.  This freezer friendly 9-inch pizza is great for 1-2 adults.  Cecelia and I generally share one as a quick lunch but this can easily be a personal serving!!  Our Pizzas are made using a special blend of flours to deliver a beautiful flavorful and crispy crust.  The beauty of this pizza is that you get the first cook.  When you pull our pizza out of the oven it'll be ultra fresh and ready for you to enjoy.

As a Southern boy myself I am particularly fond of Southern Buttermilk Biscuits and Sausage Gravy and ours is quite the experience.  The secret to this dish comes down to our very own house crafted pork breakfast sausage.  When it comes to classic Biscuits and Gravy, Pork Sausage is king and ours will not disappoint!!  To make this dish we first cook our sausage and use the rendered well-seasoned fat from that sausage and make a roux.  This is where the flavor starts.  Our next layer of flavor comes from cooking the roux (think Gumbo).  Once we get that perfect roux color we add milk, spices, and the cooked pork sausage back in.  We let this sauce thicken and voila.  The perfect sausage gravy to smother those flaky buttermilk biscuits.  This dish is a kit.  You will receive 2 uncooked buttermilk biscuits and a pack of Sausage Gravy.  Follow the easy directions on the label and in little to no time you'll be enjoying real Southern Cooking in the comfort of your own home!!

Speaking of kits, have you tried our Beef Fajita Kit?  Our beef fajita kit contains tender beef, sauteed bell peppers, and sauteed onions (about a pound in each kit).  You might not believe this because of how tender and delicious our fajitas are but we use 100% grass fed local Panama beef.  We tend to prefer the local beef options over the imported beef.  The local beef is always fresh and unlike the American Imported beef options that Panama has, the local beef is not fed GMO corn nor is it injected with lots of hormones.  100% natural beef expertly prepared to deliver some pretty incredible fajitas that are both flavorful and extremely tender.   All you have to do is add the tortillas and your favorite fajita toppings.  Each kit can make 4 extra-large fajitas or 6 standard size fajitas.

Have you tried our newest Panini Creation, the New Orleans Muffaletta Panini!!  Talk about a fully loaded sandwich!!  This week we also have our Rotisserie Chicken Panini as well.  Check out the picture of our Muffaletta Panini.

These are just a few of the options that are available this week at the doshombrespanama.com website.  We have been proudly serving the Chiriqui Highlands for over 14+ years and our commitment to you has never changed.  Quality and Excellence without breaking the bank.  At 2 Guys & A Cooler you will always get more for less.

There's one thing that you need to know about our website.  The images that we use to represent our food are actual images of the food itself.  We've built our reputation on good clean honest cooking and part of that commitment involves the photos that we use to demonstrate our food.  Customer confidence means everything to use so you will never see pictures from popular food blogs on our website because we want you to know exactly what you will be getting.  In the interest of full transparency when we take a picture of our meal here's what we do.  We take a meal out of the freezer (just like you would do), we then follow the package instructions (just like you would do), then after it's cooked, we put it on a plate and snap a picture.  That's it.  What you see is exactly what you get.  To check for yourself all you have to do is right click (from your mouse) on any image from my website, and when the menu comes up select "search the web for this image".   Food you can trust

We've got a few big announcements that we will be unveiling soon so be sure to sign up to our weekly notification list to stay up to date.

[News Boquete] We’re All Getting Older

🎉 We're All Getting Older… 🎉

…and for many in Boquete, that means thinking ahead about how we care for ourselves and our loved ones as the years go by!

With more seniors making Boquete their home, there's a growing need for quality elder care services in our community. That's why we at Rotary Club of Boquete Sunset are proud to help spread the word about a wonderful new initiative — though it's not a Rotary project, we believe it's a fantastic community service and a valuable resource for our town.

👵👴 A New Aged Care Program is Starting Right Here in Boquete!
Local, compassionate Panamanians will receive training to assist elderly residents with daily living activities, especially during times of illness or recovery.

This is being organized as a charitable project for our community by Orit Pines, who has 15 years of experience running in-home health care and adult daycare services in Florida. Orit is also partially sponsoring this effort to help make it affordable and accessible.

✅ The training and certification are non-medical, and handled by a professional, government-approved vocational training center in David. The two-day course covers:

  • First Aid

  • Mobility equipment use

  • Personal care and hygiene

  • Medication reminders

  • Meal assistance & light recreational activities

📝 Important Note:
This is not CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) training.
It's non-medical, similar to a Home Health Aide level certification. CNA training is a more advanced, six-week medical course — this is not that.

After completing this two-day course, caregivers receive certification from the accredited center. All participants are carefully vetted — including police clearance, high school diploma, and a clean bill of health.

👉 And just to be clear: These caregivers are not housekeepers or cleaners. Their role is strictly personal care, companionship, and assistance with daily living activities — not household chores.

👉 How It Works:
If you or a loved one need care, you'll pay a one-time training fee for your selected caregiver. After that, you'll work directly with your caregiver to arrange their services and schedule. Orit will guide you through the details and help you get started.

📱 Contact Orit Pines for more information:
📲 WhatsApp: +507 6672-8478
📧 Email: nicoleadhc@gmail.com

Again — this is not a Rotary project, but we're proud to help promote it as a wonderful service option for our beautiful Boquete community! ❤️

Family of the Month

Dan, originally from Brooklyn, NY, moved here in 2023 after several years of researching the best place to retire. As a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, he was "ready to get back to the mountains after years of living at sea level in Myrtle Beach, SC."

He had two careers: managing the non-clinical side of hospitals and working in materials management for a county government. He enjoyed both a great deal. Both were fast-paced, never the same two days in a row, and he had very interesting experiences in both jobs. For example, he ran auctions for Onondaga County in New York. He sold used heavy-duty equipment at some of the auctions. Frequently, those auctions were attended by people from NYC who were rumored to be the Mafia.

Dan has lived in Taiwan, Connecticut, North Carolina, and several other places dueto his dad's job as civil engineer. Dan moved his family to Louisiana for his job. Then Dan lived in Central New York and Australia because of his wife's job.

He enjoys hiking, walking in the Library Park, and playing and watching sports. Dan plays pickleball, padel, and disc golf. He attends the Chiriquí baseball games and watches baseball on TV, although he will watch any sport that is shown. His mother-in-law used to tease him about watching worm races if they were shown.

Dan found out about BVB when he went to the Tuesday Market in 2023. When he moved here the next month, he became involved as a packer and substitute delivery person. Dan is now the treasurer. He felt the BVB mission was a good one and that it is important to give back to the community.

Early on, he went on a delivery and was profoundly affected by the families he met. The homes were constructed of corrugated metal and plastic sheeting in some cases, yet the families presented cheerful outlooks and were extremely appreciative of food they were given. Because the families wanted to give the BVB volunteers something in exchange, many gave plants or, if they had a surplus, vegetables from their gardens.

Along For The Ride

Going along with one of our BVB delivery people is a wonderful opportunity to see where and how our families live. After the March food pack, I accompanied Heather Paton as she delivered food to three clients.

The first was to the government sponsored group home for abused children. We carried in the bags of food with the help of one of the office workers. Heather and I told the office staff thank you for the help carrying the heavy load. Heather reminded them, in Spanish, that she would be making a delivery on the last Wednesday of next month.

The second and third deliveries were to houses very close to each other. The women are both older; Aida is Juana's daughter-in-law. To get to the houses, we had to walk uneven stairs carved out of the dirt and rocks that the hill is made of. During the rainy season, these steps and the walkway will be nothing but mud.

Aida and Jauna were delighted to see us and spoke in Spanish to us both. Heather needed to explain some things to both women and they had questions about the delivery. This is one of the reasons drivers need to have a passing knowledge of Spanish or be able to use Google Translate adroitly.

Most of the conversation was pleasant; then Aida told us her father had died the day before. We both offered our condolences. Juana told Heather she is taking two daily medications for ongoing swelling in her lower legs.

The smiles on these women's faces would have lit up a dark room. They were extremely grateful for what we brought. They gave many hugs to both of us, even though this was the first time I had met either woman.

Aida's house constructed of wood and corrugated metal. The floor is packed dirt, as is the outside yard. The homes in her community are built very close to each other.

Having visitors made Aida and her mother-in-law both smile. They enjoyed having outsiders to talk with. Juana, as we were leaving, gave us both a blessing and joked about us being mother and daughter. They said they are looking forward to Heather's visit next month.

Didjano

The average cost of monthly living in Panamá is estimated tobe $1,064; the basic cost of food is $357; and the average salary is $734 (study conducted by the Institute of National Studies of the University of Panama). This study also shows that the cost of living in the interior, such as in Boquete, the cost of living is higher with average salaries $350 short of the cost of living. The cost of living continues to rise while salaries do not.

Our families do not make the average salary per month and the cost of food for them is the same as for people making average or above average salaries. This is why Buenos Vecinos de Boquete is so important to our families. We help provide the food security they need to survive.

One of the most expensive items we purchase for our families is KLIM, the fortified dried milk that the Panamanian government subsidizes.

Many of our families have no electricity, let alone a refrigerator, so KLIM is perfect for their needs, as it can be made a glass at a time. It also has an airtight lid. We purchase the 360g can and every family gets at least one can; some families get two cans so we distribute approximately 200 cans a month.

If you live in the Boquete area, please drop a can or two of KLIM  off at the BVB table at the Thursday Boquete Community Market at the Amigos de Animales building. You can purchase the 360g can for less than $4.00 a can. Or, if you prefer, make a donation so we can purchase the very much needed cans of KLIM.

Buenos Vecinos exists to help people who are unable to meet their basic food needs. We have provided emergency food support on many occasions and have been successful in helping families through hard times. We will help them with food support until the working age adults in the family can find enough income to become self-sustaining.
