Planned Military Repatriation Flights

 

The Embassy is working on two evacuation options via military flights for those U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) accompanying U.S. citizen family members wishing to depart Panama. There are no guarantees of these flights or the space available.

 

There are two U.S. military air flights scheduled for April 2 and 4 with a limited number of seats available; we are in the process of notifying individuals who have already expressed interest in being evacuated from Panama about these flights.

 

·         April 2, departing Panama Pacifico at 9:05 p.m. and arriving Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, FL, to arrive 1:15 a.m. April 3.

·         April 4, departing Panama Pacifico at 4:53 p.m. and arriving Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, TX, to arrive 8:43 p.m.

 

Requirements, restrictions, and helpful information:

 

·         The flights are restricted to U.S. citizens and LPRs accompanying U.S. citizen family members.  All passengers must be in possession of a valid U.S. passport or I-551 (green card) in order to qualify for a flight.

·         Availability will be based upon first-come first-served basis and will require a financial commitment in the form of a repatriation loan for the State Department calculated one-way fare to the destination of the aircraft, which is NOT negotiable.

·         Please note these flights will arrive at U.S. military installations and you will be responsible for coordinating your onward travel, including transit from the base to a commercial airport.  The closest major airport near Fort Walton Beach, FL is New Orleans, LA; and the nearest to San Angelo, TX is San Antonio, TX.

·         If you are ill, you will not be permitted to fly. Prior to departure from Panama and upon arrival to the United States you will undergo a temperature screening.

·         All passengers must sign a promissory note to ensure payment of the required fare.

·         Baggage is restricted to two bags that cannot exceed 70lbs. total.

·         Service animals MAY be authorized on the April 2 flight.  Please be sure to share your needs as appropriate.

·         You may bring limited liquids and snacks.

 

Additional Department of Defense flights are projected through April 9, with limited seating.  The embassy will continue researching additional military and civilian commercial options.

The current situation with the Tuesday Market suspended and people avoiding restaurants has highlighted the need for an easy, convenient way to place orders. Many businesses are offering takeouts and deliveries but the ordering process leaves much to be desired...Until NOW

For the last 8 months I have been working to achieve this by building a new and much faster version of the mobile app Boquete & Beyond, which will have tools available such as restaurant ordering and table reservations, food ordering from BCP vendors, appointment scheduling with salons, bodyworkers, etc.

This version is not ready for prime time, so I built a lite website version for those who choose to make it easy for their customers to place orders during this time of crisis...and beyond. Instead of phoning, emailing or texting orders, customers can use the familiar online shopping format. Simply scroll through the list of products, click on the quantity for each item and hit Submit... Easy-Convenient-Fast.

Just like the original version of the app, the new one will include every business with a free, basic listing but these new features will not be free...except for the next two months. As a way to support our community I am waiving the setup fee and monthly maintenance charges for the next two months for any business that signs up now. No one is obligated to continue using the ordering system once the crisis is over and the monthly charges begin.

I am reaching out to businesses to educate them on this option but if they hear directly from their customers that this is desired, they are more likely to sign up... please request it. If you want to be a real revolutionary, make your voice heard, tell them... I want this! Remind them that it costs them nothing to get started because I am absorbing(donating) in excess of $150 in fees for each business that joins. I am also very busy building the website and order forms so don't have a lot of time for outreach, so please share this information with your favorite businesses, including restaurants, cafes, bakeries, salons, bodyworkers, health care professionals, yoga classes, gyms, spas, etc...I'll accept them all under the same introductory offer. 

This came together very quickly and the first to join are Ana's Veggies, Global Food Providers and

Cloud Forest Botanicals. As others join our Convenience Revolution they will appear on the website.

read the instructions about when to order and pickup instructions.

If you get a message that the order form is not available,

it means they are not accepting orders at that time.

If you want to install the original version of the app, search for Boquete & Beyond in the google or apple app stores. The original will continue to function normally until the new version is ready in a couple of months and I will add the order function there for each business that joins. But, the website version will be easier to use for some people.

Nationwide Suspension of Domestic Commercial and Charter Flights

On March 26, Panama announced the nationwide suspension of commercial passenger and domestic charter flights, in addition to the March 22 ban on international commercial passenger flights. There are exceptions for cargo, humanitarian, medical supplies, medical evacuation, and vaccines.

The Embassy is working on evacuation options via commercial humanitarian and military flights for those U.S. Citizens wishing to depart Panama. Please express your interest in consideration for potential evacuation flights by emailing: PanamaCityUSCitizen@state.gov.

Availability will be based upon first-come first-served basis and will require a financial commitment in the form of a repatriation loan from the State Department calculated on one-way fare to the destination of the aircraft, which is NOT negotiable.

On March 25, Panama enacted nationwide movement restrictions, also being referred to as quarantine. The movement restrictions will include regular windows of time for people to conduct essential activities, such as grocery shopping, getting gas and medicines, or dealing with a medical emergency, based on the last digit of their cedula number or passport if an individual does not have a cedula.  For U.S. Citizens in Panama without a cedula, they should carry their passports at all times. The two-hour windows are as follows:

· Last number is 7 – 6:30 – 8:30am

· Last number is 8 – 7:30 – 9:30am

· Last number is 9 – 8:30 – 10:30am

· Last number is 0 – 9:30 – 11:30am 

· Last number is 1 – 12:30 – 2:30pm 

· Last number is 2 – 1:30 – 3:30pm 

· Last number is 3 – 2:30 – 4:30pm 

· Last number is 4 – 3:30 – 5:30pm 

· Last number is 5 – 4:30 – 6:30pm 

· Last number is 6 – 5:30 – 7:30pm 

There is a special window for those over 60 years old, regardless of cedula or passport numbers, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. 

Even with these time allowances, during the nationwide movement restrictions the Embassy encourages everyone to prepare accordingly.  Take the opportunity to stock up on any medicines and food supplies you may need to shelter in place in your homes for an extended period of time.

During a health crisis there will be no meetings, classes, trainings or other gatherings.  For the protocol for delivering meals or equipment and interacting with patients go to the link below for full instructions. View our Complete Policy Important Letter from Our President Upcoming Events: Apr 1 – Council Meeting – (Go To Meeting link) Apr 9 – General Meeting – (Possibly by Go To Meeting link) May 6 – Council Meeting – (method of meeting depends on circumstances) May 14 – General Meeting – (method of meeting depends on circumstances) Boquete Health and Hospice Operations In compliance with all directives, BHH has cancelled all events, meetings, classes and training.  When we are able to resume these activities, we will let the community know.  On March 19, 2020, BHH conducted its first video meeting using Go To Meeting.  Seven of our Council members were on the call.  We will hold our next regularly scheduled Council Meeting at 10:00 a.m. on April 1.  Depending on the results of that meeting, we will attempt to hold a video meeting for our membership.  More information to follow. Boquete Health and Hospice Policies During A Health Crisis Regardless of anything else, our volunteer's health and safety must come first.  Under no circumstances will our volunteers be placed in a situation that endangers their welfare.   We can still delivery meals and music to people's homes, but: We will not enter the home.  The meal/music will be left at the gate, and NO physical contact with any person will be made.  Our volunteers will respect the 2-meter distance requirement. No Hospice or Home Healthcare visits will be made. Equipment loans will be considered.  Equipment borrowed from our lockers will be sanitized prior to pick up.  Equipment returned to our lockers will be sanitized outside the building prior to being returned to storage. Respiratory equipment will be set up at the locker, delivered to the home (outside) so all the patient/family has to do is plug it in.  Pick up of respiratory equipment is to be made outside the home, wiped down with bleach before being placed in the volunteer's vehicle. We appreciate that these requirements are difficult, but we are attempting to still provide the majority of our services while keeping our volunteers, their families and friends and the community safe.   BEING PREPARED The new handbook, "Being Prepared in Boquete for Life and Death", is in the process of being printed.  We are unsure of when it will be completed.  The information contained in the booklet has been simplified and is easy to read.   The handbook will cost $10.00.  You can reserve your copy by emailing a request to: prepared@boquetehealth.org Boquete Health and Hospice wants everyone to be able to afford a booklet.  If you are so inclined, an additional donation will allow others to receive a copy.   Boquete Health and Hospice is still here and helping, just in a different way.   Request for Help/Donations Boquete Health and Hospice usually raises funds through our events.  However, now and for the foreseeable future, there are no events.  In order to continue providing equipment, meals and music, as well as the Being Prepared information, donations are needed and deeply appreciated.  Please consider a PayPal donation (Click the Button below) to help us over the next few months.  Thank you. Bottom left and right some of our Heroes giving blood at the great facility at Regional Hospital BHH Now has Mini Training   When BHH started out, the training offered to new volunteers was a three-day program, designed to teach members about the history of hospice, the new organizations philosophy, basic skills of communication and medical care.  With the growth of the current span of services, volunteers have joined who have no desire to actively work with patients.   These new volunteers desire to be Ambassadors (they are usually the first actual face those who greet people attending our events see, drive people to medical appointments, and perform other tasks around town that promote our organization), or to work to increase our Public Relations, or work on logistics for the meetings, or work to improve our administrative functions.  A three-day training program contains information that these non-patient-care people don't need, so the BHH Training Team, under the direction of Beverly S, developed a mini-training that covers the vital principles from the longer training program. On February 28, six people experienced this mini-training.  Over the course of two hours, the history of Boquete Health and Hospice was discussed, as well as current initiatives and teams they could work on.  The expectations of all volunteers were covered as well as a very basic review of communication and listening skills.  This mini-training will be offered every six months.  If you are interested in joining BHH, please complete the application on the website – BoqueteHealth.org.  Look for the application under the MORE tab in DOWNLOADS AND FORMS.
