[News Boquete] Somatic Movement & CranioSacral Therapy. The Good news is...

Change is Possible in a Positive Direction. But We need to Discipline our Mind & Body to believe it and Do the Work necessary to bring it about. Somatic Movement & CranioSacral Therapy are tools to motivate, support and effectively assist you toward a positive state of balance and wellness.

Most chronic pain, joint degeneration and recurring injuries are caused by the way we move our body- the way we sit, stand, exercise and move throughout our lives.
Through injury or pain caused by repetitive exercise patterns making us prefer one side & overwork some parts of our body as we underwork others, plus accidents, surgeries or sedentary living, we become out of touch with stress free patterns of moving and how our total being is interconnected.. Anatomically we are built to move pain free and effortlessly.. However when faulty or unbalanced, uncentered movement patterns override natural ways of occupying, moving and using our body, we unconsciously repeat these incorrect, unnatural movements continually reinforcing and strengthening our level of pain and ultimately leading to chronic injury and accidents.

The solution? To re-educate our body and mind and repattern our nervous system with simple, fluid, small, continual movements to relearn how to move naturally. To regain and become centered, balanced, grounded, and more aware of and in touch with our overall self.

Somatic Movement explores simple, fluid movements babies & children inherently do. As we age we replace these natural unconscious movements with those we learn or create; forgetting and becoming out of touch  with the movements we naturally and inherently  knew and did.. Relearning these ways of moving, students recall how the body is anatomically built to move. Their practice makes one more conscious of whatever movements he or she does and adds comfort and variety to everything they do.

Do Know...To repattern the Nervous System [meaning to reestablish the coordination of our body and mind] movements need to be done by oneself.  A touch professional  can lead  your body through natural movement pattern[s] as you're lying passive, or create their end result through force and manipulation. But ultimately, to create lasting change, we each need to move through and add to our movement abilities to integrate our body and mind.
Thus the role and objective of the Somatic Movement instructor is to teach You how to Move your body in ways you have forgotten, To assist you in restoring your natural range and ease of motion through making cues as to what you should be experiencing  and watching to make sure you are doing the movements correctly.

How does CranioSacral Therapy complement Somatic Movement?  CST is a Touch Therapy Empowering the Individual to embrace greater responsibility for his or her well-being. Specific hand placements on the spine and skull as the client is lying at ease and comfortably dressed, assists the nervous system to release emotional and physical traumas. Through this process, an open mind and a balanced and relaxed meditative state are induced, naturally, opening one into his or her empowered self and a deeply focussed, and positive state of being.
Both therapies are gentle and work well done separately or when experienced together. Somatic Movement is active. CranioSacral Therapy is passive. Both serve to deeply relax and strengthen the nervous system.
Suzanna Clare has been a student and Instructor of Somatic Movement for 20+ years. She began taking Feldenkrais Classes & Seminars when she was a Yoga Instructor, integrating Somatic Movement principles into her classes. She also explored Continuum Movement  in an intensive workshop with its creator and 3 plus years ago [after having an accident requiring knee surgery] began studying & doing Clinical Somatics. A professionally trained and licensed Massage Therapist for 30 years in the state of Florida, the last touch modality Suzanna received training in and performed was CranioSacral Therapy, created by John Upledger, Osteopathic Physician.  She is Certified by the Upledger Institute to do the 10 Step Protocol. To assist her client toward relaxing fully to best receive the CST, Ms Clare may employ Therapeutic Massage.techniques and passive joint articulations.
Prior to the quarantine, Suzanna taught Pilates at the Haven for 8 years. Due to her diverse background, Movement classes may integrate a variety of exercise modalities depending upon her client's needs and abilities.

Fee and Session Structure- The first session/consultation consists of both modalities. Ms Clare's fee is $40 for the first hour plus $5 for each additional 15 minutes. In future sessions, depending upon the client's needs, one or both therapies may be employed. When CST and Therapeutic Massage are executed, sessions are 75 -90 minutes. Movement Classes may also be done solely, or a session may be half movement and half CranioSacral Therapy, with or without massage.
Regarding Somatic Movement, it is strongly suggested when learning something new, daily practice and regular weekly instruction creates the best results. And when someone needs more  instruction to perform the movements correctly, 2 classes weekly are recommended.
