Hospital Chiriqui is working with a US billing company to handle direct billing for certain insurances, including some Medicare Advantage plans.
The billing company working with Hospital Chiriqui currently supports the following insurance providers:
United Health Care
Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), both Commercial and Federal Plans
Kaiser Permanente
Cigna
Tricare and ChampVA
Aetna
Government Employees Health Association (GeHa)
You can pre-register, see Deyka at the 1st floor international billing department.
You don't need to make an appointment. To pre-register, you must take your insurance card, passport, visa or cedula, and driver's license.
The advantage of pre-registering is that Hospital Chiriqui and the billing company can verify your benefits in advance, expediting your medical care.
Hospital Chiriqui also bills for FMP (Foreign Medical Program) through the VA. You can pre-register for that, too.
Regular Medicare can NOT be used in Panama. You cannot pre-register if you only have regular Medicare.
If you only have regular Medicare, you must convert to an approved Medicare Advantage plan. Medicare Advantage covers urgent care and medical emergencies in Panama.
To switch to an approved Medicare Advantage plan, see the three very experienced Medicare Advantage agents listed in this article.
