"Education is the Key" is a new initiative started by Amigos de Animales and Kris Berg of Howling Success K9 Services
Here in Boquete, we see too many sick, mistreated, starving animals; we see children and adults who have no idea how to care for their animals, or indeed any clear idea that the animals are living breathing creatures that need food and water and care just like they do.
In order to make the most impact, any true mindset shift must start with the education of the children. To effect that change, Amigos de Animales has teamed up with Howling Success to begin educating the children of Chiriqui on how to properly care for their dogs, cats and other animals. FADAB, Howling Success and Bizzie the Border Terrier, a registered Therapy dog, will be going to the schools in Chiriqui and together they will begin to work with the children.
We are fortunate to have Kristine Berg, owner of Howling Success K9 Services with us. Kristine is very familiar with education and working with school children. While involved with animal services in the US, Kristine ran an extremely successful education program teaching about the care and safety of dogs with children in elementary and middle schools in South Carolina and Arizona.
One of the long range goals of Fundación Amigos de Animales Boquete has been education in the proper care and treatment of animals. Together with Kris, we are about to begin just that. Our first "Education is the Key" fundraiser in July of this year held at the Howling Success facility was a "Howling Success!" We brought in more than $2000 for the launch of a program that we hope will make a huge difference in the lives of the animals and their caretakers in the Boquete/Chiriqui region.
