Helpful Tips on Resolving a Mold/Mildew Problem

 

• A thorough inspection of all furniture using a flashlight underneath and above drawers and backs of wood items. If you discover mold on anything wood, clean it thoroughly with vinegar, then seal it good with a non-VOC sealer.
• Remove pictures from walls and inspect the backs. Remove paper if necessary.

• Go through clothes in closets and inspect carefully.  Thoroughly launder anything that has white spots.
• Mold will attach itself to residue such as body oils; therefore hanging clothes back in the closet after wearing them is not a good idea.
• Pack unnecessary items away in a plastic bin or bag, but only after washing with soap & vinegar.
• Good air flow in the house is important.  Open the doors & windows on a regular basis so the air exchange can take place.  (This is contrary to popular belief that you should close everything up and turn on the air conditioner to avoid mold).
