Buenos Vecinos Newsletter April 2018 Look at Our New "Face to the World" You can now view our brand new website at www.buenosvecinosdeboquete.com. Gijs Hoogerkamp and Ivan Gonzalez of Chiriqui Media Factory donated the design and launch of our new site and we are very grateful for their skill and expertise. Besides the new look, we are pleased to announce the addition of a new feature that allows our donors to select a recurring monthly payment Pay Pal donation. Please remember that an annual $30 monthly donation insures one of our families the supplemental food they need for a year. Thank you Germaine and Richard Sturtz Our tireless volunteers organized and conducted a multi-donor rummage sale from the home of Germaine and Richard Sturtz in Las Brisas this last month. Proceeds from their and other BVB volunteers' hard work created enough support to sponsor three families this next year! Job well-done! Greet the BVB Volunteers this Saturday On Saturday April 14th, come say "Hi" to our "ladies in blue" who will be collecting non-perishable food and cash donations in front of the Boquete Romero's Super Market from 9 am to 1 pm. These donations will help supplement our clients' monthly food basket. Our clients represent the elderly, and single moms who lack family support, as well as handicapped individuals and their families. A Multi-Charity Venta de Patio in Potrerillos April 21st Don't miss the 4 charity Venta de Patio sale taking place in the basketball court in Potrerillos Arriba. We will have for sale clothes, kitchenware, household item, baked goods and many more items. The sale will take place Saturday, April 21 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. This exciting event is sponsored by Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, Fundacion Pro-Integracion, Boquete Rotary Club and Boquete Knitters and Quilters. Coming from Boquete there is a Terpel station before you reach Dolega. Turn right at the station. You will see a sign for Potrerillos. Go straight toward Baru mountain on the road. There will be a fork in the road where you will see a small restaurant and a gas station. Stay to the right. Keep going straight and you will see a basketball court on your left right before you reach the town. We hope to see you there!! Family of the Month Up in the mountainous rural area, where sugar cane fields and vegetable gardens grow, live the hardy people who live off their machete and harvesting skills. Edilberto, twelve, and Jon, almost two, belong to a family like this. They, their four brothers and parents live in a zinc and bamboo house poised near the ridge of a canyon. Edilberto looks up to his two older brothers, Adrian, fifteen, and Jean-Carlos, thirteen, because they can help their dad harvest sugar cane, tomatoes and chayote when they are not in school. Edilberto cannot perform these chores because he has juvenile arthritis which limits his mobility and requires frequent visits to the local clinic for medicine to ease his pain. So Edilberto is left at home to care for his three younger brothers, Joel, five, Abigal, three, and Jon, whenever their mom is needed to help harvest, or to walk down into the village for groceries. Her outdoor wood cook-stove is constantly going to provide meals for this hungry family. Mom, Elena, tells us that she is proud of her boys. They are healthy and happy, and they are getting better school grades each year. If you would like to help Ediberto and Jon and their family, or families like this, please consider a donation to Buenos Vecinos de Boquete today. How to help? If you would like to help our clients and the efforts of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, we would appreciate your donation of any size. It is important for you to know that we are a small all-volunteer force with no administrative or overhead costs. Every dollar of your donation goes to the purchase or storage of food for our clients. Buenos Vecinos de Boquete's wholesale purchase power enables us to furnish our clients more food than they could purchase on their own in the store with the same amount of money. When you make that important decision to help feed the less fortunate in our community, you have truly become a "good neighbor". When you donate $360 a year or $30 a month (about the cost of a daily latte), you will become a Coconut Foundation member as an acknowledgment of your concern and generosity. Donate Online: We use PayPal for easy and secure transactions. If you prefer to donate by cash or local check, please contact Louise Orr panamaleo@gmail.com for arrangements. Thank you! |
