[News Boquete] More on the Devastation of Tropical Storm Eta

Tropical Storm Eta and Its Devastation in the Chiriqui Province

Last week the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) issued a warning about the possibility of heavy rains in certain regions of Panama for several days associated with Tropical Storm Eta. Eta was upgraded to a hurricane as it targeted Central America, specifically Nicaragua. However, Eta was such a huge storm that it also dramatically affected Costa Rica and Panama. In Panama it was the Chiriqui Province that suffered the most damage. Recovery activities are underway now. Speaking only about Panama, there was massive and disastrous damage, loss of life (both human and animal), loss of public infrastructure, and significant damage to the main food production region of Panama. Through various media, both private communications and public social media, you likely are hearing about multiple efforts to provide emergency aid for those affected. Please do your part to help those in need. For the most part, Volcan, Cerro Punta, and Bocas del Toro were the most affected, but that is not meant to diminish the other areas that are also suffering from effects of Eta. There were reports of 70,000 tons of vegetable and fruit produce being lost last week due to storm damage, and a resulting shortage of produce in the markets in David, and some prices going higher due to shortages. The long term effects of Eta will be felt by most.

Information from various media continue to be posted on Chiriqui.Life. For more details, admittedly some very gruesome reports and images, please visit the following link on the Chiriqui.Life (CL) website (scroll down to see all of the related postings, and the translations).
