December 20 is in Panama a National Day of Mourning. This is in remembrance of the 700 Panamanians who were killed as a result of the invasion of Panama by the Armed forces' of the United States on Dec. 20, 1989. On that day 27,000 US combat troops invaded Panama with its 16,000 member Guardia Nacional – mainly a police force with little or no combat training. Nearly every Panamanian knew or was related to someone who died. The same proportion of dead, applied to the US population would be 57,000 dead. The day is worthy of everyone's respect.
