Our mission is to provide low cost spaying and neutering of dogs and cats, and to promote the general welfare of animals in our community and surrounding areas. |

THANK YOU FOR HELPING MAKE OUR FOOD DRIVE SUCH A SUCCESS! Our Food Drive campaign raised $14,474, and we have many donors who are making recurring monthly donations. Thank you for your support. In 2021 we delivered over 14,000 pounds of pet food, and more than 17,000 pounds in 2022. The cost of this program is over $1,300 per month. We've shared stories about our local heroes like Sra Carmen and Sr Virgilio, Sra Anays and Sra Uva. They quietly feed and care for animals who have no one or anywhere to go. These people are citizens of Boquete who you might never meet, who will never get awards or recognition for what they do, but they are the real backbone of our community. |

To us at Amigos de Animales, Sra Carmen, Sr Virgilio, Sra Anays and Sra Uva are heroes. Please help us continue to help our local heroes and the animals they care for. $10 per month will help feed one dog or cat. |

HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY TO OUR FOUNDER, RUBY McKENZIE On January 14th we threw a surprise 80th birthday party for Ruby McKenzie. We had close to 100 people who attended, including 5 vets. Ruby helped start the clinic in 2005, and she has been the driving force behind what it has become today. We have sterilized over 23,000 animals, and the impact on the health of animals and humans is measurable. Ruby is an incredible person and the community is so lucky to have her! Happy Birthday Ruby! |

Please tell them that the procedure will make their animals safer and free them from the worry of the related illnesses or injuries that might ensue with cat or dog fights. |

This month we're featuring: Name: Katrina Kneebone Katrina is bilingual, helps big dogs in Recovery at our clinics, and coordinates our education program in our local schools. Here is her story: |
| |
|
I am an educator, and I am involved with the Amigos de Animales program for 5 years taking awareness of pet sterilization into elementary schools. Here I am explaining what that involves. After my Rottweiler departed for the Elysium Fields, each month I would get my "big dog fix" at the clinic, sitting quietly on the rug and resuscitating the large breeds from their anesthesia . Two years went by and then, Leslie Sherling, who had befriended me, noticed that I was speaking Spanish and helping the student volunteers. "We need you," she said, and that is how I became the lead person for the Amigos de Animales schools outreach program. There are 13 schools in the rural areas of Boquete and our mission is to reach out to these students, teach them about pet care, and encourage them to bring their pets to the clinic for spaying. COVID curtailed our efforts for two years, but in October of 2022 we picked up again and managed visits to five schools before the school year ended. Click here for the rest of Katrina's story and more pictures on our website. |
