Message for U.S. Citizens: Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT) 

August 11, 2020  

 

Have you ever wanted to become a diplomat for the U.S. government?  Here is your opportunity!  The test registration window for the October 2020 Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT) will open August 17 and remain open for six weeks.   

 

The requirements are as follows: 

  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States. 
  • Applicants must be at least 20 years old and no older than 59 on the day the candidate submits the registration. 
  • Applicants must be available for worldwide assignment. 
  • No specific level in a foreign language is required for applicants. 

 

For detailed information on pursuing a career in the Foreign Service, to learn about what career track might be right for you, and to explore in detail the steps of the Foreign Service hiring process, please go to careers.state.gov 

 

All registrations for the FSOT must be completed online.  For the first time, the test can now be taken from your home or office.  Please visit home.pearsonvue.com/fsot to register and learn more about taking the test online or at an authorized in-person testing center.  

 

The FSOT is offered three times each year in February, June, and Octoberand registration will be open on a continuous basis.  Please do not delay in registering and scheduling your test; availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.  If all test registrations are filled, you will have to take the exam the next time it is offered.
