[News Boquete] 75-Year-Old American Man is Murdered in Boquete Panama

The perpetrator is presumed to be a minor who suffers from mental problems.

Saturday Oct 25, the death of a 75-year-old American citizen was reported, allegedly at the hands of a 16-year-old indigenous youth, in the district of Boquete, province of Chiriquí in Panama.  The tragic incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, when the young man allegedly entered the elderly man's property, located in Volcancito, with the intention of stealing. Initial reports indicate that the minor attacked the victim with a knife and subsequently tried to set fire to the place. The incident was reported by a home worker, who found the body, which showed signs of violence and burns, so she immediately notified the National Police.

The young suspect is already in custody, and several items belonging to the victim were found on him, including his cell phone.  Eduardo Rodríguez, mayor of Boquete, said he was dismayed by this unfortunate event and noted that the minor had mental and social adjustment problems and had already been arrested on other occasions for theft cases. "Unfortunately, he always ended up in the hands of the Adolescent Prosecutor's Office and regained his freedom. We are now talking about a life, something that could have been avoided."  The official called on the Ministry of Security to increase the number of units in the district to provide security to residents.
