[News Boquete] In memory of our Joey

I'm at  loss for words, but I would like to post some loving words from our
longtime and forever friends Ellie and Kevin in California...

The unfathomably tragic murder of our friend Joe has been ever present in my thoughts this past week. This inexplicable loss is having a profound affect on me and it feels the same to the many friends of Joe and Betsy's, who are literally, all over the world. We have all had varying types of losses in our lives. Too many, no matter how many. l certainly have had my share; some, very tragic. Yet this violent act (something that, until now, I've only had to read about), is very hard to get my head around . For one human being to unjustly steal the life of another. It's unreal. It's unbelievable and it's so very, very sad. Joe was such a good friend to so many.
I've been struggling to deal with my natural instinct to try to "fix it", to find something I could do about it. I get that, practically, there really isn't much that we can do. From the conversations and emails with friends, my sense is that many of us are having similar struggles....
So, what can we do ?
I would like to suggest that tomorrow, Friday the 31st of July, at 12 noon PST, we collectively UNIFY our love and powerful positive energies by taking 5 minutes out of our busy day to stop whatever we are doing and just be quiet...and hold Joe, Betsy and Lorraine close to our hearts. You might want to symbolically light a candle, others might want to meditate, pray, chant or just pull over on the side of the road and close your eyes. It doesn't matter what you do and it doesn't matter what you believe in.
Holding space and honoring the life of a friend IS something we CAN do. Many believe that this type of synchronized unifying can have a powerful influence in promoting goodness, love, and positive change. This world we are living in is in dire need of help. Betsy and Lorraine need help healing. We ALL need help to heal. And Joe deserves our love and thoughts as well.

Please pass this email on to anyone you feel should be part of this circle. It is not necessary for them to even know Joe to make a difference.
Again, tomorrow Friday, July 31st (a blue moon) at noon PST.

Thank you,
Kevin and Ellie
Look into unify.org (a non profit founded by a friend of our family) for more information about synchronized unification and the positive changes it brings to the world.

[News Boquete] Armed Home Invasion in Santa Lucia

Compiled from several posts on www.boquete.ning:

A Santa Lucia couple were robbed at gunpoint about 5 PM Thursday, July 30.  They were followed home and had a gun pulled on them. The woman was hit in the head. Their car a white Lexus was also stolen so if you spot it please call AAC or the police.

There will be a community meeting at 10 am Friday at Santa Lucia Country Club.

The police responded in a timely manner and had detectives on site doing a good job.

The couple was in town and were followed home in a car around 4:40 pm. A couple of young thugs approached them and instantly pulled a gun, and made them go back in the house.
They stole credit cards, cash and their beautiful white Lexus. The woman was hit in the head with the gun. The husband spoke to them in perfect Spanish and calmed them down giving them everything they asked for.

The police responded in minutes, and investigated. The police have asked for neighborhood support.

[News Boquete] Armed home invasion in Palmira Abajo

Sent this morning by Betty Gray My dogs started barking about 7:30pm and were very excited. In fact, they were so excited that I could not hear the program that I was listening to on my computer. I finally got up about 7:40 to go to my bedroom to put distance between their noise and me. (They usually do their most energetic barking if there is a rat outside.) I turned on my outside lights at that time. Around 8:20 my neighbor, Mike Hart, called and said that my worker Lio was at his house describing armed and masked males in my car port. He had already called Rodney at Alto Crimen and said the police were on their way. He was really a great help in informing everyone and giving directions. Thank you so much, Mike. I immediately got my gun and started peering outside. I never saw anything, but through the bars of one of my back doors, I fired a shot at the hillside to perhaps scare them. Actually, I just wanted to fire my gun. When Lio left to run to Mike Hart's house, Luis, my other worker, went to keep track of the maleantes, who left walking up toward Palmira Abajo, then leaving the road and going into the trees. Luis, joined the police in their car to direct them in the hunt. When they were not able to find the bad ones, they all came to my house to talk about the intrusion. Oh I also need to tell you that Lio's whole name is Lionardo and I think he is appropriately named. And Luis Vega is also a very valiant and protective young man. Mike Hart was really impressed with their actions. I am impressed also and very thankful. (A few days ago, Luis saw an old green corolla drive past our entrance very slowly several times. I was not alarmed because many people drive by slowly to look at the progress of our gardens.) I called my dear and indispensable, Yasmin Arauz, who called Eric Nunez, my dear friend who works for the police in David, Internal Affairs. Yasmin came with her husband and another Rolando. Eric arrived 30 minutes later. Yasmin interpreted and also operated the video for the police. There were three maleantes who had masks, the cameras did not show a gun, but Lio, the one who first saw them, did see a gun. They were aware of the several cameras around my house and grounds because they kept their heads down and they damaged one camera. The first responders left and now there are two detectives here at midnight also investigating. Eric is helping them and he plans to spend the night to make sure that I am safe. I am so grateful for the quick response of the police and support of my friends. I believe these police really are seriously intent on catching the maleantes. When I fired my gun, I had to pull the trigger three times to get it to fire. Eric says I should fire it more often because humidity is not good for bullets. I will store them in my closet from now on and put one of my dehumidifiers in there. I was fortunate that I found out about the gun not firing until the third time I pulled the trigger. I will fire it routinely now to make sure that I am really ready for the next time. I am a little disappointed though that I did not get to kill a robber and perhaps a murderer. But at least now I am really ready.

[News Boquete] Buenos Vecinos de Boquete August Sponsor a Family

Sponsor-a-Family August 2015

PLEASE SPONSOR A FAMILY IN  MEMORY OF IRENE HAINES

Mariano and Christian are best buddies at Fundacion Pro Integration's Saturday get togethers. Both boys are deaf. Mariano is 11, and lives in a one room bamboo structure with his parents and four siblings. His father does manual labor when he can find work. Christian is also 11, and lives with his family in farm quarters, where his father works the fields and sells vegetables. Both families are assisted by Buenos Vecinos de Boquete with monthly food supplies.

The boys are pictured here with Irene Haines at last year's Christmas party at FPI. Dressed in their best, they were so excited to go into the festivities with Irene and perform a rock and roll number. They may not have heard the applause, but they got a standing ovation led by Irene! Boys like Mariano and Christian, and their families, are in need of Sponsors to continue the work of BVB.
Irene was one of the founders of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete. She was also an passionate advocate member of Fundacion Pro Integracion, and enjoyed relaxing with her friends at Boquete Knitters. Irene would be pleased and grateful to know that the Boquete community is still supporting the causes she worked so hard for.

If you would like to sponsor this family, and the efforts of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, your financial support would be most appreciated.

TO SPONSOR other families like this:

DONATE ONLINE: http://www.buenosvecinosdeboquete.com/how-you-can-help
We use PayPal for easy and secure transactions.

IF YOU PREFER TO DONATE BY CASH, Please contact Louise Orr (panamaleo@gmail.com) for arrangements.

When you make that important decision to sponsor-a-family, you have truly become a "good neighbor". Your contribution of $360 a year or $30 a month (about the cost of a daily latte) goes a long way.

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete's wholesale purchase power enables us to furnish our clients more food than they could purchase on their own in the store with the same amount of money.

When you sponsor-a-family for a year ($360), your name will be added to our "Coconut Foundation" as an acknowledgement of your concern and generosity.
