10:30 in the BCP Theater

Immediately on your right across the Feria Bridge

Tuesday, January 7 – Boquete Video Festival 2020 – Patrick and Gabrielle Reynolds will present a recap of previous Boquete Video Festival fun, showing clips of winning videos, as well as a reel of highlights from the Awards Gala: "The Academy Awards in the Rainforest". This year will be bigger than ever as the competition is open to all of Chiriqui and has the cooperation of Joswar Alvarado, Mayor of Boquete – who will present a special award for the best depiction of our fair town.  Everyone has a story to tell, and everyone has a cell phone orvideo camera (we have some to loan). We want to empower them to tell their story well in a short video.

To accomplish this, people of all ages who register to make a video will receive classes, taught by professionals, to learn effective scripting, shooting, editing and uploading. Special effects make-up and music for film will also be explored.  Come learn about the many types of videos that can be submitted – for a chance to win fabulous prizes, or maybe your own gold statuette!

Did you know that it happened for the first time just up the road at the Boquete trout farm? The idea of using a GMO for food actually has its origin way back in 1972. Dr Bill will cover all the important points along the way as well as the current perspectives.

Tuesday, February 11 – Boquete Health and Hospice The BHH Healthy Living Series presents Falls Prevention Awareness

Falls are the number one reason people end up in the emergency room. The facts about falls are alarming - and probably surprising:

·         One in three adults over the age of 64 falls each year.

·         Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries in Florida residents over the age of 64.

·         Every hour there are 2 deaths and 251 emergency room visits in the US because of a fall.

·         20 - 30% of older adults who fall sustain serious injury.

·         Falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injury, fractures and hospitalization in older adults.

·         Even falls without an injury can limit one's mobility and/or cause a fear of falling.

Come to the BHH presentation on Falls Prevention Awareness to see what you can do to avoid a fall.

Presenters:  Betty Landis and Merl Will-Wallace

Tuesday, February 18 – Dr. Paul Myers – Geologic  of Living in Caldera River Valley – "Living safely in Boquete's rapidly evolving Landscape".

Immigrants attracted to Panama by its ideal climate often reman naively unaware of its unique hidden hazards, many of which can be avoided by knowing the "warning signs" and making wise decisions.  This talk focuses on hazards with a geological connection; volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, and mega-floods.  In general, all of these can be mitigated by living on stable high ground with a sustainable, potable  groundwater supply.

I will show you how to recognize the warning signs using visual examples (slides) from the Boquete area.
