FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

On Sunday, February, 14, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 45 animals, 19 dogs and 24 cats. We had two vets working along with our volunteers.

On Sunday, February 28, we spayed or neutered 136 animals, 64 dogs and 72 cats. We had three vets at this clinic which allowed us to increase our numbers. The cats just keep coming! We are wondering when we will ever "catch up" with the population explosion that occurred during the months of no clinics and have been doing two clinics a month so far this year and have two more planned for March.

YEAR TO DATE

Since 2015 we have sterilized 18,974 animals - 10,296 dogs and 8,678 cats.

The 26th animal at Sunday's clinic will put us at 19,000 to date!

SIX YEARS AGO

Look at this – six years ago we moved into our fabulous facility, the Ruby McKenzie clinic. And now, 71 clinics and 11,295 animals later, we are still going strong. The Covid virus slowed us down in 2020 but we are back and still working hard to ensure that the dogs and cats of this area are cared for. This is proof that a community working together can do wonderful things!

VOLUNTEERS IN THE COMMUNITY

What do you do when cats are being born blind and the people who have them won't permit you to sterilize them but only want them removed?

You build a sanctuary just for them. Kirsten Quimby has a passion for helping animals and seeing the blind cats inspired her to create a solution so that these 10 or 12 cats stay safe and unharmed.

This vision has become a reality thanks to donations, community support, and this very determined person. The first two "residents" are now living there, Momma Opal, a blind pregnant cat found downtown, and her kitten Thor.  The remainder of the cats will be transported to the sanctuary next week. Once they are removed, they will be brought to a vet for evaluation and sterilization and then will be free to live out their lives in safety and peace.

In addition to this, Kirsten also does cat trapping to bring feral cats to the clinics as well as feeding over 200 cats around town.

VAN UPDATE

We are close to achieving our goal for purchasing a mobile vet van. So close that Ruby has been working with Oscar Hernandez to find us the perfect van that we can transform into a mobile clinic that will allow us to reach communities which would otherwise be unable to get to our clinics in Boquete. Once again, this community has come together and helped make good things happen.

CALENDAR INFO for signing up

Our 2021 calendar was a great success and we are now taking reservations for the 2022 calendar pet pages. A page featuring your animal (dog, cat, horse, goose, etc.) is $150 or $200 for two animals on the same page. Sign up quick – these pages go fast!

BCP COMMUNITY CHAT

Be sure to attend the upcoming BCP Community Chat on Thursday March 18 at 11AM. We will have a presentation and panel discussion about how to care for your pet in an emergency. Be sure to get your reservation in early – this will be very popular!

ANNUAL MEETING 2021

Last year we were unable to hold our Annual Meeting. This year we have scheduled Wednesday April 7 at 10AM to hold the meeting and kick off our annual membership drive. Membership is still only $10 and goes to sponsor our sterilization clinics. Please mark your calendars to attend this important meeting in which we will share news about coming events and future programs. Attendance will be limited and we follow all safety guidelines regarding spacing and mask wearing.

Amigos de Animales continues to support the community by  donating $900.00 worth of dog and cat food PER MONTH . Any donation of food or cash would be greatly appreciated.
