BOQUETE (Panama) August 20 – Hacienda La Esmeralda set a new world record in the specialty coffee industry by reaching an unprecedented average price of $5,745.06 per kilogram of Geisha coffee during its recent private auction, in which it sold 87 kilograms distributed across 12 micro lots, for a total amount of $499,820. The result represents the highest average price paid for specialty coffee in an international auction and marks a new milestone for high-end coffee in Panama. The auction, which attracted 3,018 bidders, was dedicated to Price Peterson, the founder of the farm and pioneer of high-end coffee in Panama, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, in recognition of his legacy and track record in Panamanian coffee, explained Rachel Peterson, manager of Mercadeo y Ventas de la finca. The most bid on the day was the Tumaco Carnaval Natural, 10 kilograms, awarded to The Espresso Lab, from the United Arab Emirates, for a price of $10,253 per kilogram. In the same way, the Nido Pascua Natural, four kilograms, was the most disputed lot, with 577 bids. The lot was grown in the same area where the Geisha Lavado was produced in 2025, which set a previous record of $30,204 per kilogram. The Asian market led the purchases. Buyers from China and Hong Kong concentrated 75% of the lots, nine of the 12 offered, for an approximate value of $321,000, a figure representing more than 60% of the total value of the auction. The Chinese companies Grand Cru and Nanjing Eco Farm Trading Co. led the buying volume, winning three micro lots each. "We are very happy with the support of international buyers. The results reflect the strong participation of buyers, especially Asians, for Panama's specialty coffee." ___________________________________________________________________ The above message was distributed by /News Boquete/, a free subscription-based community service. /News Boquete/'s _*ONLY*_ public email address is news.boquete@gmail.com.
