[News Boquete] Calling Acoustic Musicians .. Looking for Old Time, Bluegrass , Irish Acoustic Players ... ALL LEVELS WELCOME

 We have a lovely little group of Old Time Acoustic players here in Boquete called the Pickled Beats.  We hold a weekly jam session on Tuesdays, which is all about just giving it a go ..  and although it can get messy, we mostly do just fine--making good music together and having a good time, which is the point of an Old Time Jam.  Some players do it by ear, and some with written music.  It all works and is a lot of fun.   We have been known to jam in public but performing for an audience is not our main purpose.   Old Timers play With--and For--Each Other.  All levels from newbie to expert fit into this kind of session.

Here is a link to a couple Old Time songs so you can see what kind of music this is.  (It isn't 60's folk).  Roots are in Appalachia, and further back to Ireland and Scotland, etc.   Primarily barn dance, contradance, buckdance music.

We have a tune list with over 150 Old Time and Irish tunes that we call from, so if you'd like I can send it to you. 

The list grows as we add tunes.  The above link has one song (Valley Forge) already on our list, and one (Sadie at the Back Door)

that we will be adding (per our banjo player Juana's request) as a next up song.  So many great tunes to learn by playing.

Fiddles, Mandolins, Banjos, Guitars, Stand Up Bass are the standard 5 Old Time instruments, but right now we also have a melodica.  Other acoustic instruments can work well (including spoons and washboards).   It's all about the beat.
