I’m delighted to invite you to a special afternoon of classical music on Sunday, August 2, at 4:00 p.m.

As the Boquete Classical Music Society, Mary Sorensen, soprano, Álvaro Bell, guitarist, Richard Callaci, pianist, and I, on violin and viola, will present a varied program of solo works, ensemble pieces, and arias spanning centuries and continents.

I’m especially excited that the program will include Soliloquio by the Chiricano composer Gonzalo Brenes, celebrating our region’s rich musical heritage.

The concert will take place at the Tap Out Community Theater. Admission is $10, and everyone is warmly welcome.

Did you know that the Boquete Rotary Club has been awarding scholarships to needy Panamanian students since 2012? And we never award a scholarship to a student until we have their full program tuition in our bank account.  University programs last from 4 years for a bachelors degree to 6 years for a medical program. We currently have 17 fully funded university students. We'd like to add 3 more students this coming year. It takes $650 to fund one semester and $1300 to fund a full year. [News Boquete] Panama President Mulino Warns of Sanctions for Failing to Provide Discounts to Retirees

President José Raúl Mulino instructed Acodeco to strengthen oversight to ensure compliance with the law that grants discounts to retirees.

The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, announced that he gave instructions to the Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (Acodeco) to strengthen the supervision of compliance with the law that establishes discounts for retirees and pensioners.  The president indicated that the entity must verify that businesses respect this benefit and apply the corresponding sanctions in cases of non-compliance. 

“I have instructed Acodeco to monitor compliance with the law on discounts for retirees,” Mulino stated.

President Demands Respect for the Law on Discounts for Retirees

The president emphasized that this regulation must be complied with throughout the national territory and reminded everyone that the discount is a right established by law for Panamanian retirees including expats.  He also warned that there will be no exceptions for those who fail to comply with the provision and reiterated that all obligated establishments must respect this benefit for the retired population.  This law includes all retirees, not only local Panamanians, so expats from various countries qualify.  If you visit a restaurant and are refused the discount, not only threaten to report them to ACODECO but actually file a report.  You have heard from the President of Panama and he means business.
