[News Boquete] Message for U.S. Citizens: Road Closures during the 2015 Summit of the Americas - Embassy Closure on Friday, April 10, 2015

Preface to the below US Embassy message: Panama is also hosting the International Film Festival in Panama City from April 9 to April 15. Road conditions will likely be very congested and difficult at best because of these two major events.

Due to the various activities and forums taking place during the Summit of the Americas, the Government of Panama plans to partially close a number of roads near the Atlapa Convention Center, Calle 50, Panama Viejo, and Corredor Sur from April 9 until April 11.

Please follow the link below to access a map of expected closures:  http://redirect.state.sbu/?url=http://we.tl/AJA7B5OxBm .  More information is available from local media outlets.

The Consular Section (Visas/American Citizen Services/Federal Benefits Unit) will be closed to the public on Friday, April 10, 2015, for participation in the Summit of the Americas.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

For up-to-date information on security, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov .  Further information on safety and security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada toll-free at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

U.S. citizens who travel to or reside in Panama are encouraged to enroll in the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).  By enrolling, you make it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in case of an emergency.
