This is a summary of the Info video the mayor put out on Chiriqui Radio for October: (I like the last line!)
1) Resources were granted to create a guard post to protect the one entrance to Boquete at Caldera to guarantee more stability and security for those who live and visit here, and to guarantee you have a good time.
2) Agricultural development: Visits from the EDA and IMA, Minister of Agriculture and others. Boquete is a tourist destination and an agricultural producer. Agro-tourism is important for local and national development here. We are monitoring and trying to keep the Caldera River clean, and the valley safe from floods.
3) We have been getting together and talking with organized groups like at the BCP birthday celebration, we let it be known our intentions about security, sustainability, environmental development- green and completely ecological.
4) Gestations of projects of Chinese investments in "macro projects" in Boquete. There is interest from the Chinese to invest in a tram to the top of the volcano so tourists can see both seas, of a conference center, new city hall, a modern bus terminal, parks, green spaces, walkways and foot bridges to the fairgrounds and old town. They are working in these ways with the president, and the Minister of Tourism, O'Higgins, and with the Chinese consulate. They are looking at upwards of 2000 tourist visits daily to Boquete, increasing the economy of restaurants, hotels, artes, and agriculture of the area. These projects are in gestation.
5) Educational institutions: We are looking at loan programs, or grants to other countries' multilingual education programs for graduates to increase understanding from developed countries so students can have access that we don't have here yet, enhancing all our future with the education they acquire.
To all our brothers and sisters (hermanos), and the foreigners that newly reside here, you are all "Boqueteños", we welcome you. And now that you are here, you have the security and pleasure to walk and be in our beautiful district of Boquete.
