[News Boquete] Fwd: June Clinic Report

On Sunday June 24, 2018, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 136 animals, 48 dogs and 88 cats.  We had three vets working, Drs. Cesar, Viriglio, and Aaron.

This was a good clinic, rather slow moving, plenty of volunteers.  Sometimes people complain that perhaps we have the incorrect number of volunteers for any given clinic - lining up the volunteers for the clinic is an inexact proposition at best.  Too many and the volunteers don't have enough to do.  Not enough and the volunteers feel rushed and compromised because they have too many animals to look after at any given time. Many times, there is an afternoon lull when things slow down and volunteers leave and then we are slammed later in the afternoon. Keep with us!  There are often other things that need to be done on clinic day behind the scenes.

Lining up the vets is never easy either.  We want to keep them busy and make the travel and the work day worthwhile for them.  After Magaly sets the reservations, she contacts the vets in accordance with that number.  But then…a collector ends up not bringing all 15 of the animals promised, or a collector brings more animals than expected, or a vet is not able to come at the last minute.  We do our best to keep everyone engaged and occupied but it is always tricky trying to balance it all out. Most importantly, the safety of the animals is always our first concern.

I hope that everyone saw the first edition of The Wag, the new newsletter for Amigos de Animales.  If not, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1C_C3uYBd_BfqpEoxmWA_W_btz5_hRKplJKyQ50CmKoU/edit.  The next edition will be out in early August and will give you more information on what is going on with Animales and in and around the animal community in the Boquete area.

The next clinic is Sunday July 29.
