Costa Rica Closes the Land Route Border Crossing at Paso Canoas
There have been trade disputes between Panama and Costa Rica for several years. Those disputes began to escalate earlier this year, with bovine and dairy products the primary focus in the August 2020 time frame. Panama protested to the World Trade Organization (WTO) certain actions by Costa Rica. As of the last couple of days the border crossing at Paso Canoas is now blocked on the "Tica" side. Reports are that at least 400 commercial trucks are stranded in Costa Rica trying to get back into Panama.
The reason for sending out this special notice is to advise those in Chiriqui who may be considering travel to Costa Rica, or perhaps exiting Panama via a land route going north into Costa Rica. For more details, please visit the following link on the Chiriqui.Life (CL) website (scroll down to see the English translation of news articles, as appropriate). If you wish to read the history of this conflict you can scroll to the top of that topic and read away. Any updated information will be posted there.
