CLINIC REPORT

On Thursday September 24, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 34 animals, 19 dogs and 15 cats.

On Thursday October 1 we spayed or neutered 31 animals, 12 dogs and 19 cats.

On Thursday October 8, we spayed or neutered 11 dogs and 25 cats.

On Thursday, October 15, we spayed or neutered 19 dogs and 32 cats

On Saturday October 24, we spayed or neutered 13 dogs and 34 cats.

As you can see, it has been a busy month. We are continuing to do these small clinics under the guidelines of MINSA. We have one vet, Dr Virgilio, and a limited number of volunteers working. We were audited by MINSA at the October 1 clinic and all was found to be in order. We are hopeful that in November we can begin to have bigger clinics with more than one vet.
Poco a poco

This is why we need to continue our work – an explosion of new puppies and kittens being born during this time.

CLINIC SNAPSHOT

Ever wonder who brings in our animals and where they come? Thanks to our wonderful volunteer, Andy Mitchell, this is a graph of last year's clinic. As you can see, almost 70% of our animals are brought in by individual owners and 30% by our collectors.

And this is who the collectors are.

OUR FRIEND TIMOTEO

Amigos de Animales lost a very good friend last month, Timoteo. Timoteo Bonilla Cruz had been with us for over 10 years, always smiling and always ready to help. He was a friend to many and his generosity of spirit and time saw him hosting a big Christmas party for the children in the Comarca after gathering donations in Boquete. Families always looked forward to this event and would travel long distances to attend

He loved working at the Animales clinics where he greeted everyone with a big smile and often a hug and then he just jumped in and helped wherever he was needed.

A kind generous man, he will be missed by all who knew him. May you rest in peace, Tim.

CALENDAR 2021

Which of Boquete's pets will grace the cover on the new 2021 Amigos de Animales? That closely guarded secret will be revealed with the arrival of our latest calendar. Unfortunately we will not be able to have our famous launch party and luncheon, but look for our calendars at the BCP Tuesday Market and local businesses. The calendar is a major fundraiser for Animales so please help support us and our clinics. We should have the calendars ready to go by November 5!

MOBILE CLINIC VAN

As we have worked through this crisis, we have come to realize that we can make a significant difference by purchasing a mobile sterilization clinic that can reach areas whose occupants cannot come to us. In addition to spay and neuter services, we would be able to promote animal education and conduct wellness checks. The cost to purchase a used van and outfit it appropriately for a vet to be able to perform spay and neuter functions will be about $35,000. To help us raise the needed funds, we have created a GoFundMe campaign. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have raised about 1/3 of the total needed. Your help, in any amount, can help us attain this goal! Please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/g8x7zw to donate today!

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Amigos de Animales continues to support the animals in need during this crisis. Dog and cat food is being purchased by Animales and distributed to Kirsten Quimby and Martha Miranda who then distribute the food to dog and cat feeding stations and to other volunteers who then take the food into the hills to distribute to the indigenous families for their animals. This is a huge coordinated effort and we thank all of those caring for and feeding the animals of our community.

NEXT CLINIC

Our next clinic will be on Saturday November 7. These clinics fill up fast and we are limited to the number of animals we can do. If you have or know of an animal that needs to be sterilized, please WhatsApp Magaly at 6563-8686 so she can put you on the list for our next clinic.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Can't work at the clinics but love animals and want to support Amigos de Animales?

You can:

Donate food for the volunteers and vets at the clinics – contact Jane Hampton at jatrha@gmail.com

Donate pet food. It can be left at Animales on clinic day or at Amigos de Boquete at the Alto Dorado mall during business hours.

Donate your old towels, especially the smaller hand towels or washcloths. They can be left at Animales on clinic day or at Amigos de Boquete at the Alto Dorado mall during business hours.

We are looking for someone with a graphic design background who is interested in helping us with our newsletter, flyers, clinic notices, etc. Please contact me if you are interested.

If you have any other questions or are interested in volunteering or helping with the above, contact me, Alicia, at akcleavenger@hotmail.com

Thank you for your continued support. Together we are making a difference.
