AMIGOS DE ANIMALES BOQUETE PANAMÁ   SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER AUGUST CLINIC   On Sunday August 27th, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 340 animals, 119 dogs, 216 cats and 5 rabbits(!) with six vets and one trainee working. It was the most cats we have ever done in a day, and within four animals of a record total. This Sunday we will surpass 3,000 animals for the year.   70% of the animals were female and 42% came from Boquete. 228 animals were brought in by owners and 112 came from collectors.   POTRERILLOS MINI-CLINIC    On Sunday September 17th we took our van and about 25 volunteers to Potrerillos. We had 3 vets who spayed or neutered 124 animals - 62 dogs and 62 cats.   This clinic was part of our Educational Outreach program. Raquel Coba, Cindy Clayton and other volunteers visited the Potrerillos schools and encouraged students to have their family pets spayed or neutered. A big thanks also to Sara Echenique and her daughter, Sol, who coordinated everything with the community and handled registrations. EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM UPDATE Our Educational Outreach program continues to grow! We raised over $1,700 at a fundraiser on September 16th at Mike's Global Grill. Our volunteer Petra Henriquez provided a painting bought by Wendy Burton for $500, and Petra's husband, Gabriel, and his band Power Trius performed. Thank you to everyone!   We are working to enhance the students' educational experience by providing classes on pet care, animal maintenance, and sterilization.  We will also expand their access to reading books, read aloud to the students and by setting up school animal sterilization clinics at the schools, near the students' homes.   We have 2 main needs:    Volunteers: we'd like to have 1 to 4 volunteers for each school so we can nurture and grow the experience for the children throughout the school year. GET TO KNOW OUR AMIGOS DE ANIMALES FAMILY   This month we're featuring another Panameño volunteer:   Name: Martin Guerra   Your position/title with AdA:  Collector and transporter of animals to and from different parts of Chiriqui   How long have you been working with AdA?  5-6 years Can you tell us a little bit more about what you do with AdA? There are people throughout the Chiriqui Province that wish to sterilize their pets, but don't have the time and/or transportation.  I drive all over the province….places like Caldera, El Flor and Potrerillos….to pick up the animals in the morning, bring them to the spay and neuter clinic and then deliver them back in the afternoon.    Why would you encourage others to volunteer here with AdA?  Volunteering here is a way to make a positive difference in the lives of animals.  I see a lot of animals that are suffering from neglect, abuse, heat, rain and lack of food.  Sterilization minimizes the number of unwanted animals and their ability to keep multiplying.  I like to be able to help the animals in need and minimize their suffering.   Click here for the rest of Martin's story and more pictures on our website. KIBBLE & BITS:   •  Food Drive: We are continuing to feed needy dogs and cats in Boquete at a cost of over $1,600 per month.  You can donate by clicking here   •  Membership Drive: Sign up for your annual Amigos de Animales membership and receive a great car magnet. Membership is still only $10. You can sign up at the BCP Tuesday Market or at a clinic.   •  Gift certificates: We have made gift certificates in the denomination of $10 and $20, the price of an individual sterilization for a cat or a dog. Give your neighbors, gardeners and maids certificates for their dogs and cats.  Let's help each other help each other!   These certificates are an easy way to help. They are available at the Animales table at the BCP Tuesday Market, at Mike's Global Grill or at the clinics   •  2024 Calendar: We've sold out of the 2023 calendars, and all of our ads for our 2024 calendar. Thank you to Larry & Jennifer Pascal for another great job!   •  Educational Outreach program: We are visiting local schools to educate students about proper care for their pets, and the importance of spaying and neutering animals.
