I notice that some people repeatedly give inaccurate email addresses when registering for a chat.
All that happens when you do that is that you do not receive a confirmation of your booking, nor do you receive reminders.
Those of you who do this regularly often arrive at the chat and complain that your name is not on the list, or you didn't receive confirmation!!
Sometimes I get emails from the same people saying they don't know if they have registered or not.
Sometimes I get emails from the same people saying they don't know if they have registered or not.
For those of you who do this regularly (you know who you are) I am no longer going to spend time following up your emails.
Also there are a few people who regularly sign up for a chat and don't turn up. Some of them use a slight variation of their name - presumably hoping that we won't notice this, or have different emails that they use in different weeks.
There are even a couple of people who reserve for almost every chat as soon as the schedule is published and don't turn up.
The only thing that you may achieve by doing this is to find that you can no longer register for a chat that you actually want to attend.
WHY DO WE ASK FOR REGISTRATION?
Initially it was a covid requirement for the Library, but we soon realized that the speaker often wanted a list of attendees, because they wanted to send follow up information.
Sometimes we need to stop further registration when the room is full, This is another time when registrants who don't turn up can cause others to miss a chat that they were really interested in.
If a chat has to be postponed or cancelled, we email registrants as soon as we know. If you are not registered or give the wrong email address you won't know.
We ask for a phone number only because there may be an occasion when you leave something behind, or we have a last minute change for some reason.
Please - if you want to attend a chat, make sure your email address is correct.
If you want to cancel a reservation, click on the link in the confirmation or reminder email, do not send an email asking us to cancel it.
Thank you
Phil
