[News Boquete] Strength Training for Mental and Physical Health

Exercise and Nutrition are important during our entire lifespan  but especially so as we age, becoming seniors. A year ago I joined the gym and have been going 3-4x weekly. Weight training has not only built muscle, making my arms, back and legs stronger but has also made me a helluva lot happier, more content and appreciative of the stage of life I'm in. I am 73.
Recently watching a number of videos on YouTube I scientifically understand why. I, along with others, know  Strength training is a necessity for well-being. I recommend you go to YouTube and type in Strength Training for Seniors, and watch and listen to a lot of what comes up.
I've been an exercise enthusiast all my life. Even as an obese child, I was active. I also taught Yoga, Pilates and Therapeutic Movement and was a Personal Trainer. When I go to the gym I do an eclectic work-out of elastic band stretching, yoga movements, hand weights and weight machines. Regarding the machines I keep it simple. I work with  setting the weights as to what I can do at various ranges of motion. As I get stronger I begin adding more weight. and widening the range of motion. My body tells me how much I can do. Plus I make sure to set the machines correctly. so to have good form. Weight training need not be complicated.
However, if you've never done this before and would like help getting started, or would like help going to a new gym, we can meet at the San Francisco Plaza gym for an hour-long session. for $20.
An exercise professional, for many years, I will work with you and your particular situation. Do send me an email as I do not use a phone, but actively use my computer.
Always Towards Greater health and Well-being, Suzanna [Susan] Clare
