[News Boquete] Geology Field Trips April/May

April 2:  Gualaca/Caldera.  We visit rocks at a hydro project as well as prehistoric rock carvings in Gualaca.   The trip also includes a complex pyroclastic flow that went down a river leaving deformed and metamorphed river sediments that contain fossil shells. Approximately 5 hours

April 4:  Volcan.  This trip studies the south and west sides of Volcan Baru and the features associated with its violent eruptions.  This is an all day trip. 

April 20:  Local trip 2.  Learn hazards of flooding and earth movements associated with landslides and earthquakes. This is a half day trip. 

May 4:  Volcan.  Repeat of April 4 trip.

May 8:  Gualaca/Caldera.  Repeat of April 2 trip. 

These trips are free of charge but individual vehicles are used.  Trip leader is Dr. Paul Myers, emeritus professor of Geology at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire assisted by Geologist Martita Stearns.  For more information or to register write:  fieldtripboquete@gmail.com.
