Subject:                               Possible Disruptions and Blockings along Pan-American Highway in San Felix, Chiriqui

 

Dear Wardens:                  Please disseminate this message to U.S. citizens in your area.  Thank you.

 

 

The U.S. Embassy in Panama City alerts U.S. citizens of possible disruptions and blockings along Pan-American Highway near the San Felix area in Chiriqui (Ngobe Bugle region), due to ongoing mining law protests.  Anti-riot police are stationed near the area to prevent the demonstrators from obstructing the road; however, traffic on the highway is still likely to be affected.

 

Other protests on this or other issues may occur at any time and be repeated with little or no warning. The Embassy continues to caution its employees and all U.S. citizens to exercise heightened security

awareness and avoid crowds and any areas where there are demonstrations or where confrontations

could occur.

 

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the

Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Travel Warnings and Public

Announcements, including the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, can be found. Up‐to‐date

information on safety and security can also be obtained by calling 1‐888‐407‐4747 toll free in the U.S., or

for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll‐line at 1‐202‐501‐4444. These numbers are

available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal

holidays).

 

For updated information on the security situation in Panama, please contact the American Citizens

Services Unit of the U.S. Embassy at 207‐7030. The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy is located in

Opening of the New Boquete Library

This Saturday, February 4th, The Foundation for the Biblioteca de Boquete (Boquete Library) would like to announce the formal opening of the new and modern library. 

Starting at 10 am, there will be a formal ribbon cutting, a presentation by the Conjunto Folcklorico de la Alcaldía de Boquete and recognition of all the sponsors.

There will be a picture expedition and tours of the library.  We would like to include all of you who have a love for art, music, and the written word.

Hello All

The Bid 4 Boquete Venta de Patio team (Lions Club and Amigos de Animales) have gone through the thousands of donations given to us for the Venta de Patio Sale (rummage sale) and have chosen the very best clothing to present to you for sale this coming Sunday, February 5.

There are lots of name brand items and all of the clothing and accessories are clean and in very good condition. Prices will start at $4 per item. Most of the clothing is for women but there are some good men's items also including jeans, sweaters, shirts, sport jackets, etc. On the women's side there are cocktail dresses, formal dresses, slacks, blouses, shoes, purses, jeans, etc.

The sale will start at 1 PM at the Amigos de Boquete Offices which is around the corner from Mike's Global Grill (formerly Tammy's) and behind Hotel Fundadores. All proceeds go to support charitable efforts in the greater Boquete area.
