[Noticias] charity quizz en zanzibar

Good day every body

We are all inviting you at our super Charity quizz at Zanzibar. As you all know we are doing this charity quizz in order to help a cause so this week we would need some funds for our orphanage Trisker. They are actually in need of Soap since all the kids like to be outside you can imagine how much soap they are using every week.

So we are all hoping that you will come and have fun doing that quizz while you are helping our little ones...

See you at 8h00 pm on thurday the third of March.

[Noticias] Animal Sterilization Clinic Yesterday

We sterilized a total of 127 animals yesterday in Boquete. There were 64 female dogs, 20 male dogs, 25 female cats and 18 male cats.
Our five vets came from Panama and Costa Rica. Our wonderful volunteers came from Boquete, Potrerillos and Dolega! Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time, their food, their drinks, it was a good kick off for the year!. Our next clinic will be February 27th at the Amigos de Animales office beside the Amigos de Boquete office in Bajo Boquete. Call Jessica Sicilia at 6563-8686 or email her at boqueteanimales@gmail.com for your appointment(we will only be able to take 60 reservations for this clinic). We have sterilized over 2700 animals since we began in 2005. Help us help the community, talk with your neighbors about the benefits of sterilization, ask us for brochures(in Spanish/English) about sterilization, help your neighbors get to and from the clinic. We charge $10 per dog and $5 per cat and NEVER turn anyone away for inability to pay.
Thanks again, volunteers(and thanks for all the towels, sheets, and blankets donated...our patients appreciate them!). Together we are making a difference. Ruby McKenzie, Founder and President Fundacion Amigos de los Animales, Boquete

P.S. Stop by the Animales booth at theTMM and enrich your life by Adopting a pet. Carole Newsome has a wonderful photograph selection of the adoptables. Check out our website as well www.fadab.org

We will have fresh organic produce for sale this week at the Tuesday Market, Feb 1, held at the new Boquete Events Center from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

                                                              http://fincasantamarta.biz/

Our new website (link above) has been launched and is ready for you to view, set up your accounts and fill your shopping carts for delivery to Tuesday's market.  From now on, please place all orders using our web site.  Your feedback is important to us, so please let us know what you think and if you have any problems.  Cut off time for all orders is 6:00 pm Monday.  Some items are only available in very limited quantities and earlier orders take precedence.  Thanks.

Two small things to remember for now (until we get them fixed):
1)  A street address is required on orders for checkout.  You can add your address, if you have one, or add the city in this area as well as the in the city area.

2)  Postal code is required on the orders.  Since Panama has no postal codes, just add in any 5 numbers - such as 99999 - in that area.

Advantages of the website:
* More product information is available to you with photos.
* Easier ordering with current pricing.
* You will receive an itemized order confirmation when you place the order.
* You will receive an itemized invoice when you pick up your order.
* Information on new product availability and expanded product lines.
* Simplified order fulfillment.

You can still place an order by phone to Ron at 6459-5218.

We are in need of egg cartons.  If you have extra clean cartons, please bring them to the market.  And bring your canvas bags to carry your goodies home in.  Thanks.

Remember that everything we sell is guaranteed to please you.  If you are not pleased with something, just let us know so that we can make it right.

Thank you for your support.

[Noticias] Alto al Crimen Report on Feria Week

The big feria week in Boquete is over and we wanted to report to you on what has traditionally created an elevated risk of crime in our community.

Apart from the usual drunk and disorderliness, there were three events reported to the DIJ (the criminal investigative unit of the police) for investigation during the feria week. First was a break-in burglary at a rental house (no security measures in place) in Panamonte Estates during an afternoon when the residents were away - probably not directly related to the feria. There was a construction crew working next door, which makes it easy for bad guys to track the movements of the neighbors and know when the house is empty. A private investigator was hired and a DIJ investigation is ongoing. The second event was a couple who checked into a local hotel and later went from room to room stealing from the guests, who were observed to be at breakfast or out sightseeing. Finally, a single burglary was reported at another local hotel.

To support the DIJ, Alto al Crimen volunteers provided walkie-talkie sets for the duration of the feria which were effectively used for under cover patrols. In addition, thanks to your generous support of Fundacion Alto al Crimen, we have been able to provide the DIJ - on indefinite loan - walkie-talkies, night vision goggles and binoculars. We are currently looking for a good quality zoom camera for them to use in collecting evidence, such as photographing license plates from a distance. If you have such a camera and would like to loan it to the people who help keep our community safe, please let us know.

We are indeed fortunate to have enjoyed a very peaceful holiday season. With your continued vigilance and our continued campaign to support the local police and let the bad guys know that this is OUR town and they are not welcome here, we can look forward to the coming year with optimism. Home security, like safe driving, is a state of mind and a discipline that requires ongoing improvement. Please take the opportunity to improve your home security, based on real-world experience in Boquete, by attending the February 5th Alto al Crimen two hour workshop:

[Noticias] 180 Boquete Ex-pats Respond

Dear Boquete Community,

Thank you for your expedient, candid and insightful responses to the recent e-mail and questionnaire regarding the need for 24 hour medical emergency services in Boquete. Approximately 180 individuals responded to this request for information, most within 24 hours.

 Your feedback unanimously revealed:

·        Boquete Ex-pats feel 24 hour emergency services are crucial.

·        Boquete Ex-pats are willing to consider an annual membership fee in order to

ensure that these vital services become a reality.

·        Boquete Ex-pats will make themselves available to support this endeavor

Dale Jackson is an Ex-pat who has enthusiastically stepped forward, offering her extensive entrepreneurial talent.  Together, with community expertise and support, we are organizing an effort intended to provide Boquete with 24 hour emergency medical services. We quickly discovered that others in the community have also been addressing this need and we recognize that it is the collective effort of the community that will serve to ensure quality medical emergency care to all who reside in Boquete.

Dale & I believe you will be excited about the possibilities.  At present, we have formulated three scenarios:

1.      Partnership with a 24 hour clinic, which is "investigating" the financial possibility of a start-up operation in Boquete.

2.      Pursuit of a Joint venture agreement with a participating hospital (Chiriqui or Mae Lewis.)  Contact has been initiated.

3.      Develop a 24-hour emergency service clinic in Boquete, operated under a local foundation yet to be established, funded by Boquete residents.

We are currently in need of volunteers who are willing to assist with the development of a detailed community questionnaire intended to provide community feedback for continued planning.   : (This questionnaire will be presented to the Ex-pat Community in English and to the Panamanian Community in Spanish.) . (jcacianti@gmail.com)

Other volunteers will be needed as we proceed.      I am building a list of "PROSPECT" volunteers who will be contacted as needs arise.   PLEASE  become a member of this "prospect" list.  (jcacianti@gmail.com

Boquete's Ex-pat Community =   Expertise, Talent, Energy, Resources. . . TOGETHER we can accomplish OUR mission!

Thank you.

[Noticias] English course at Spanish by the River - Boquete

Hello again!

10 days ago I sent out an email with the request for volunteers to help me with making the low cost English course possible.
I want to let you know that I have had lots of interest and that it was no problem for me to make a volunteer schedule.
Every single class will have 3 English native speakers helping me with teaching English!

The only reason that I can offer this course for $40 is because Terra Development and Investment (specialized in the construction of custom homes, eduardoterra@mac.com, 6613 0728) and El Constructor (supplier of construction materials, 720 1061) made a donation so we could supply the students with the study materials.

Final 'noticia' is that I have still 3 spots left before reaching my maximum of 15 students. If you know anyone who would be interested in improving his/her English language skills, please don't hesitate to call!

[Noticias] How to Conduct a Risk-Assessment and Perimeter Security Analysis of Your Home

Are you new to Boquete? Are you renting a house? Although Boquete is generally a very safe community, many of the home break-ins are happening to newcomers and renters. Many of the long-term residents have already taken the necessary steps to prevent becoming a victim of home invasion burglary. This workshop will give you the simple, inexpensive, and often free, methods for protecting your home and possessions so that you can enjoy peace of mind living in this beautiful community.

The average residential burglary (many while the homeowners are asleep) costs the resident something over $3,000, not to mention losing valuable and possibly irreplaceable financial information, photographs, legal documents jewelry and peace of mind. For a tiny fraction of that cost, you can theft-proof your home and minimize your exposure to home-invasion burglaries.

Your instructors have been involved in investigating virtually every crime against expats in the Boquete area since Fundacion Alto al Crimen was formed in 2009 to stop the crime wave that was threatening to engulf Boquete. You will learn from first hand experience how to evaluate the vulnerability of your home and what steps to take to protect yourself and your possessions.

TIME and PLACE: Saturday, Feb 5, 10AM to Noon at Las Ruinas - stay for lunch if you wish

PRICE: A voluntary $20 donation is asked per household to help support the community Hot Line. You will also receive a bumper sticker/house sticker of your choosing.

Mark your calendar and we'll see you at Las Ruinas (across from Las Brisas) on Saturday!
