[News Boquete] Neighborhood Watch in the El Santuario area

An open letter to residents in the El Santuario area of Boquete (and possibly to include some portions of Alto Lino): The purpose of this message is to publicize the desire by the Police Department to establish a Vecinos Vigilantes group in our area. Vecinos Vigilantes (VV) is also known as a Neighborhood Watch program. Background: I was recently approached by Captain César Castillo of the National Police regarding their desire to create a VV group in the El Santuario area. The general idea behind VV is to foster a support organization in a fairly well-defined residential area, post signs in the neighborhood to the effect that a VV organization is active and helping protect the residents, and have periodic neighborhood meetings to discuss home security matters. Captain Castillo has indicated that he will support our neighborhood and attend any meetings that are convened. His specific request of me was that I organize such a group in the El Santuario area. I believe a VV group would be of benefit to the residents of El Santuario. In fact, I am already taking steps to dramatically increase the security around our home, including a fence, additional lighting, additional security cameras, and alarm systems, etc. However, partly because of those projects and for other reasons I simply cannot take on such a organizational responsibility at this time. If any of you are willing to organize a community meeting to help establish a VV group in the El Santuario area, or you know of someone who would be willing to take on that role, please contact me by email or phone. I will pass on to Captain Castillo any offers to assist in achieving his goal. Sincerely, Bud Huber 720-2677 or bud.huber@grommet.net
