Alto al Crimen is a non-profit foundation that provides valuable services in an area where emergency communications are sparse, and there is no local or regional system comparable to the 911 emergency system in the United States. Alto al Crimen has a 24-hour "hot-line" number, and Rodny, the bilingual operator, will assist you with the coordination of emergency or urgent services. AaC also offers information on its website about what you can do to feel safe, secure, and comfortable in this tropical highland region.
I.D. plaques are available to those who have signed up for one at the Alto al Crimen website (www.altoalcrimen.org), and have been assigned a I.D. number. AaC is non-profit community foundation, and a donation of $10 is suggested for the plaques.
The VERY LOUD Boat horns are a great way to chase the maleantes away and give warning to neighbors that you are in trouble - but make sure the neighbors are aware of your boat horn and what is means when you blow it. A $20 donation is suggested for the boat horns.
The bumper stickers are being redesigned, and will be available soon.
The AaC materials are available at my vendor table on the back terrace of the BCP Center during the Tuesday Market.
And don't forget that tomorrow's auditorium event at the Tuesday morning BCP market is a periodic newcomers meeting with a focus on food availability here in Chiriqui Province. There's a lot more choices than just Romero's, the mini-Safeway of Boquete. There are many good alternative local sources for such things as organic veggies, local farm-raised meats and eggs, seasonings and spices, and much more. Don't miss it!
