| | | | COMIDA ES VIDA! FOOD IS LIFE! | | | In This Issue (September 2025) | | | | | | | | | | | The first annual Black & White Ball to benefit Buenos Vecinos de Boquete on Saturday, August 23, was a smashing success!! Guests gathered at Nomad restaurant for a truly memorable event that was both elegant and full of joy. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful venue, the evening offered the perfect balance of sophistication and fun. The setting created a warm and inviting atmosphere, enhanced by thoughtful details that made every guest feel special. Laughter, music, and lively conversation filled the night. From the welcoming ambiance to the moments of connection shared among friends old and new, the event was a celebration of community and spirit. The event was a celebration of 20 years of service to the Boquete community. For those years, dedicated volunteers have provided vital food support to needy families, allowing them to feed their families with dignity. BVB currently serves over 140 families, ranging from isolated single seniors to families of 15 or more. The event on Saturday was about fundraising but, even more importantly, it was about friend-raising – an opportunity to educate many more people about the importance of the organization to Boquete. | | | The Guests: Women in gowns and men in tuxedos elevated the event and attendees happily embraced the black & white theme. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The Venue: The setting was idyllic, the food excellent and the four signature cocktails delicious. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The Entertainment: The lively flamenco dancers and the talented singer Carla Kjaerby had everyone on their feet, singing and dancing, including a conga line that snaked throughout the restaurant. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The evening was possible in large part thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors: Accommodations: El Oasis Hotel Auction donors: Al Punto Restaurant Wynter Rosegold La Casita de Ale Jarvis Signature Tours Fuego Rancho Nuevo Mondo Tacoholics Boquete Rentals Lula's Bed & Breakfast Kinetic Metal Art Punta Duarte Garden Inn Yolanda T. Soon you'll be seeing info on where our donation boxes can be found and how you can donate toys or cash to help us be sure all of our children receive a toy for Christmas. Last year, the community responded generously, and we were able to provide our partner organization ACCB with many toys to take to children in the comarca. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | What is KLIM? It's a nutritious, enriched powdered milk product that we include in our monthly food deliveries, and it's the most expensive item we provide. It is a vital product, since most of our families don't have refrigeration, so they can make it up in small amounts as needed. Families with multiple children and elderly family members receive two small cans (360 grams, around $3.79 each – government subsidized), and with our client list currently at over 140 families, the costs mount quickly. If you would like to help us defray some of these costs, please consider buying a can or two on your next shopping trip--most of the grocery stores and markets in the area carry it. You can simply drop it off at our table at the Thursday Market, located in the Amigos de Animales building across from Ivan. | | | | | | Bottle Collection on Pause | | | Due to all of the BVB supporters who have regularly been dropping off bottles at the Thursday Market, we find ourselves with a significant surplus, so we will be putting bottle collection on hold for the foreseeable future. Thanks for helping out when it was greatly needed. | | | | | Buenos Vecinos exists to help people who are unable to meet their basic food needs. We have provided emergency food support on many occasions and have been successful in helping families through hard times. We will help them with food support until the working age adults in the family can find enough income to become self-sustaining. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Copyright (C) 2025 Buenos Vecinos de Boquete.
