[News Boquete] Chriqui Life to close October 1

I regret to announce that at the end of this month, Chiriqui Life will be closing down. While most of the functions will disappear, there will be a new version of the Events Calendar (see below).

This step is not being taken lightly but is is forced upon me by an increase of 5 times in the monthly cost of the software package on which CL is based.

Chiriqui Life was started by Bud Huber and Marcelyn Jandreau in 2015 as an answer to other bulletin board sites that were available then but which people were dissatisfied with. Since then it has acquired nearly 3000 members,

I have been looking at alternative ways to host something similar, but there are very few alternatives that come close to meeting CL's requirements, and those that do are also expensive. I also realize that more people now get their information from other sources, e.g. Facebook Groups and the number of people accessing the CL Forums has been decreasing.

One very important feature though is the Calendar of Events, which is the most comprehensive calendar for Boquete and carries information on entertainment, fitness and wellness events, outdoor activities, Public Holidays and more. This is going to continue and an announcement will be made in a few days about how to access that and how to add events to it.

Some people visit CL for the news items which are updated daily. These come from Newsroom Panama and from Panama Perspective, you can also receive most of the same stories from news.boquete.

Some people have used CL as a place to store their pictures and I'm sorry to say that that facility will be lost. If you are one of these people, I have messaged you to download the pictures if you want to preserve them.

It saddens me to take this step after 10 years of Chiriqui Life's success but unfortunately it has become inevitable.
