The First Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime executed an operation in Boquete, Chiriquí province, that ended with the apprehension of the wife and daughter of the unionist Jaime Caballero, investigated for alleged money laundering. During the action, the union leaders Abdiel Bethancourt and Jose Palacios were also detained, who will be moved to the capital for investigation. Investigations by the Public Ministry indicate that Caballero had moved money from illicit activities through transfers and checks to his name and to his relatives. Part of those funds would have been used for personal payments and family businesses.
