[News Boquete] Coffee tasting at the castle raises $20,000 for Parque Biblioteca

February 12, 2025

Boquete, Panama

An invitation-only Geisha coffee tasting at Bambuda Castle recently raised over $20,000 dollars to benefit Parque de Biblioteca Boquete.  The unique event hosted by Tom and Caroline  Bot, former Boquetenos, celebrates their silver anniversary and Tom Bot's 90th birthday.

A kilo of washed Geisha coffee, the most expensive in the world, was donated by Wilford Lamastus from the Elida Estate in Alto Quiel, grown at 1,900 meters.  Part of a very rare 14 kg lot, it was roasted specially for this event and brewed by the Lamastus staff cup by cup for the guests.  Only sixty-five limited edition cups were sold.

"This small community benefits greatly from the combined efforts of Panamanians, British, Americans and Canadian expats working together as Amigos del Parque raising significant funds to preserve, protect and promote precious green space in Boquete,"said honoree Tom Bot.

"The Park, considered to be the 'jewel of the Chiriquí Highlands' provides a natural respite from today's hectic pace; a place of quiet reflection and relaxation between its rivers and streams," said Karen Rubenstein, President of Amigos del Parque.  "Built with donations, the Park thrives on community commitment in order to continue its educational, ecological, and beautification mission."

Among those attending the Bambuda Castle event were Park benefactors Price and Susan Peterson, the entire Amigos del Parque committee, and former Olympic gold medalist, Greg Louganis.
