This Week: Lauretta Bonfiglio The cuisine of Panama. Cooking that you do not find in a typico. Lauretta, former owner of the Bistro Boquete is going to introduce us to how to use local ingredients in local foods. Panamanian cuisine is not just Arroz con Pollo.
November 15: Rodrigo Marciacq The history of the Boquete District and how it evolved into what it is today.
November 22 - Robert Boyd on the Zonian experience. The history of the Panama Canal Zone and how it has affected the Panama you know today.
November 29: Katterina Cuesta, will be exposing us to more traditional Panamanian dances. Local students and their teachers will provide four different dance experiences. After the dancing anyone who wished will have an opportunity to learn the dances. Remember if a preschooler can do it, so can we. Just don't expect to see me dancing without some pre-lubrication with rum.
December - I am looking for a speaker on the Christmas traditions of Panama, any other speakers on more indigenous traditions would be welcome also

December 13: From cacao to chocolate:
Ever wonder where chocolate comes from? Found throughout Panama, the large colorful cacao fruit contains the seeds from which chocolate is made. Drawing from her experience working with cacao farmers in the province of Bocas del Toro, Peace Corps Agroforesty volunteer Elsie McIver will cover topics such as the harvesting, fermentation and drying of cacao, chocolate making, cultural traditions and health benefits of this extraordinary fruit.
There will be no speakers from December 20 - Jan 3. We will start again January 10th.
January 2012: January is Health month, always a good start after the holidays. I am looking for speakers on topics like nutrition, painless exercise, drinking rum without a hangover and other related topics. If you wish to speak about the topic, not your business, I want you. Please email me.

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete is a small group of volunteers who deliver food supplies to the handicapped and elderly on a monthly basis. You can make donations at the Tuesday meeting. For more information, see Irene at the meeting.

Used Book Sales
Well over 350 used books DVDs and CDs for sale and U.S. stamps
for your mail. All proceeds from the book sales are equally divided between Handicap Foundation of Boquete, Buenos Vecinos and Carolina Alvarez Concepcion who is blind. Now also selling Milagros Pinzon's book about Boquete for $5.00 and Stanley Heckadon-Noreno's book "Naturalists on the Isthmus of Panama" for $15.00. Donations of books, Cds, DVDs, magazines and jigsaw puzzles will be gratefully received.
Amigos de los Animales, the group that sterilizes, provides feeding stations and supports the rescue and adoption of dogs and cats is always looking for dog and cat food and monetary donations for medicines as well as clinics. See Carole, Cat, or Heather at the "animales" booth near the auditorium door for your donations. Do a good deed and foster or adopt a rescued animal.
