Fibromyalgia

Is a medical condition characterised by widespread pain which is caused by a  increased sensitivity to stimulus that would not otherwise be causing pain.
Other common symptoms are fatigue, sleep disturbance and joint stiffness.
The cause is unknown but there is believed to be an involvement of the central nervous system.

The osteopathic treatment is aimed to rebalance the nervous system with cranio sacral treatment and to reduce the joint stiffness by mobilising the joints .

When there is an reduction in the ache/pain the sleep pattern commonly improve as well.

In a study where groups of women with FM were compared, the group that received osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT)  combined with standard medical care  was more efficacious in treating FM then standard care alone.

Injured spinal disc

There is different extents of  injury to the spinal disc, the injury commonly occurs with twisting and/or lifting movements.
When the spinal disc is damaged there will be inflammation, this cause pain in the back but can also cause pain into the legs/arms.

Osteopathic treatment speeds up recovery and reducing the chances of recurrence .
The recovery time depends on the extent of the damage and how quickly the problem is treated.
