The Boquete post office has received a bundle of Social Security Forms SSA-7162-OCR-SM ("Proof of Life" form) for persons receiving U.S. Social Security payments outside the United States and whose Social Security number ends in numbers 00 through 49, if under 90 years of age. Recipients over the age of 90 receive this form every year, regardless of their Social Security number. The envelope contains the form itself, instructions for completing it, and a return envelope for sending it to the Social Security office in Wilkes Barre, PA, within 2 months of receipt.
This is the form that ensures the continuation of Social Security benefits/checks. Your benefits will be terminated if you don't timely return this form.
The post office staff asks that those required to file this form stop by the post office and retrieve their envelope.
They noted that sending the envelope via Panamanian postal services from Boquete could take at least 1 ½ months to reach the U.S. and suggest that the envelope be sent from the David post office, with a tracking number, to shorten delivery time.
Another option would be to send the reply envelope via the expat mail system at either the Tuesday TapOut Market or the Thursday BCP Market.
