On Sunday August 25, we spayed or neutered 137 animals: 90 dogs and 47 cats. We had 4 vets working all day and plenty of volunteers to keep us going from 8am until about 7pm. I am happy to say that we have many new volunteers joining us every month which is critical as many of our old friends go back to the
There is nothing that can prepare the new volunteers for the reality of what we regularly see at the clinics. Our loyal collectors bring in animals from the far-flung fincas, and to say that these animals are not the typical pampered American pets is a great understatement! We may get some skinny under-nourished animals but the families they come from are often as skinny and under-nourished as they are. No matter what, all the animals that come to us are treated with great care and concern and compassion by the doctors and volunteers. We need to remember that just the simple act of spaying or neutering has greatly enhanced their lives and chances of long term survival.
