The family of Abraham live in Volcancito, and struggle to feed seven children.  Ranging in age from 13 to 2 years old, the children are always eager to help carry their monthly food parcels delivered by their Buenos Vecinos de Boquete representative. Sometimes it becomes a contest with the 9 year old twins to see who can lift the heavy bags of rice!

The oldest boy, 13, goes to school, where monthly expenses are $28. Daida was in school the day the photo was taken. Six year old Macario is mentally disabled and too small for his age. All the kids are cheerful; little Christina at age 2 is typically shy for that age, and stays close to her mother.

The father of this large family works at La Estancia near their humble home. Abraham is hard working, but makes a minimal wage. His employer pays for electricity and running water; Abraham buys gas tanks for the table top cooking burner.

When BVB was recently able to increase the amount of Klim (a nutritional powdered milk) in the monthly delivery, Abraham’s family was particularly pleased. You can imagine how important milk is to a child’s development. When the photo was taken, the only way we could entice the toddler to pose was when her father let her hold a can of Klim!
