The founder UPDATE Panama Magazine (UPM), Alexander Stewowitsch, came from Germany to Panama in 2008, saw this land and immediately fell in love.
Having spent two years traveling in Europe (Portugal, Italy, Spain and Montenegro), exploring the USA and touring Central American countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, he realized that it was time to get back to business!
During his first job assignment in Boquete as a hotel manager, Alex became conscious of the need for marketing solutions tailored to hotels, restaurants and tour operators. With the collaboration of some Panamanian friends, he founded MGG-Caddy S.A. to help not only the hotel he worked for but to cater to the marketing requirements of many local businesses as well.
Aware of tourists' requirements and wishes when vacationing in a strange new country - especially in regions like Central America - and in order to bring tourists and businesses together, he created Visit Boquete Booklet , a multichannel instrument to bring national and international customers to the right (read: Your) business. The Visit Boquete Booklet / UPDATE Panama Magazine is a marketing plan developed for hotels, restaurants and tour operators, as well as all other companies in the tourism industry in Panama, in which the different marketing channels coordinate the diverse target groups.
Additionally, Alex co-founded the Chamber of Tourism in Boquete and presently serves as its marketing coordinator. In this capacity, he organized the first participation in 2010 of the Vive Boquete Group in the International Expo Tourism Fair in Panama City. The group participated with more than 15 members. He also provided invaluable input to the budget presented to the ATP for Boquete marketing for the 2011/2012 season.
The Vive Boquete Image Booklet with 68 pages vividly reveals the beauty of Boquete.
The 20,000 printed copies reached more than 40,000 people in different countries in the year 2011.
In the past, Alex was chairman of a hotel and restaurant group in Berlin, Germany, and was involved with tourism and event marketing in Berlin. He worked together with the German Hotel & Restaurant Association and the BTM (Berlin Tourism Marketing Agency), providing him with ample experience in the field. He also organized golf tournaments and introduced several brands into a high-value customers market.
Alex has 20-years' experience in the restaurant and marketing business, and knows the trade not only from a marketing perspective but also first-hand, as he has instructed many waiters and chefs in restaurants. After completing his Business Administration degree in 1997, he started his own restaurant with 450 seats. With his marketing skills, he tripled the sales within 3 years time and managed more than 400 events with up to 2000 participants.
During the past 15 years, Alex has specialized in and developed a Multichannel Marketing Strategy for Hotels and Restaurants (Trojan - MCMS), and became a Master of Marketing Administration for Hotels and Restaurants. Following some personal hardships (the demise of both parents and his divorce), Alex decided to move ahead and find a new direction for his life. After a couple of years searching, he found not only this beautiful country but a new home – Panama.
