BJBF Music for Schools program – Call for donations of musical instruments and teachers
On Wednesday last week the Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival Foundation proudly presented a donation of $800 to the Academia Internacional de Boquete (AIB), a school with 160 students of 26 different nationalities. AIB is planning to create a student orchestra. The BJBF Music for Schools program is using the profits of the Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival to support musical education at local schools, and the AIB is the first beneficiary of this program. We're proud being able to help find and support the development of local musical talents!
Musical instruments and voluntary teachers needed!
There won't be an orchestra without instruments and teachers. Our donation of $800 is a start but it won't do the full job.
We are asking the Boquete community to check their closets for that ol' guitar, flute, trumpet, bass, violin, keyboard etc. that has been sitting there collecting dust for years and has never been used....
Wouldn't it be great to put that unused instrument into the hands of a kid who's burning to learn to play music but whose parents don't have the means to afford a musical instrument?
Boquete's piano-and-sax „wunderkind" Manolito Sanguino is a wonderful example of great talent that may lay hidden in Boquete's schools waiting for a chance to shine....
We are also appealing to all Boquete residents who play an instrument to consider investing a little of their time for teaching students.
Your instrument and/or maybe an hour per week of your time will make a HUGE difference!
