Announcing Alto al Crimen 2.0

Reply To: Alto al Crimen <info@altoalcrimen.org>

We are very pleased to announce a major upgrade to the services provided to the District of Boquete by Fundacion Alto al Crimen.

Since its founding in 2009, Alto al Crimen, working hand in hand with both Panamanian and expat residents of the Boquete community, has played a key role in reducing the crime rate in our community. In addition, our Boquete Hotline emergency phone service has become established as a community institution providing a variety of important emergency phone services, free of charge, to any and all residents of Boquete, no matter where in Panama they may be traveling. So what's new?

First you will notice that we have a new logo that is quite recognizable and can be used in a number of different ways. But the centerpiece of the new capabilities is our brand new website, http://www.altoalcrimen.org

The highlights of the new capabilities include:

Resident ID Database - Now you can go right to the website to register for a Boquete Resident ID, update your information or retrieve your forgotten ID number. Using the web capability, we are now able to collect additional important information that will help you in an emergency - for example, emergency next of kin contact information.

Crime Updates - We now can provide timely and accurate crime updates, with an emphasis on understanding exactly what happened, and what we as a community can learn from it in order to better defend our homes and neighborhoods In addition we will be able to provide timely warnings when it seems likely that a crime wave is under way and when we each need to take extra precautions.

Security Information - The website includes information for residents and renters, new and old, about how to go about crime-proofing your home and neighborhood. These articles are a valuable resource and will be added to over time.

Crime Reporting - Of course, you can also report a crime directly on the website if you choose.

Boquete Hot Line - We are making continuous improvements to the Hotline system to make it even more responsive to the needs of the community. Thanks to incredibly generous donations of new computer equipment, time and resources from individual donors and a very generous grant for operational expenses from the Bid4Boquete auction, we are confident that the Hotline is here to stay for years into the future.

We also want to acknowledge the very generous contributions of time and money from Susan and Pat Farrell, relatively new arrivals on the Boquete scene, whose enthusiastic, professional and dedicated work has made the new web site possible. We also want to thank Panama BIll for his great design work in creating the new Alto al Crimen logo.

And of course, we want to thank all of you, without whose generous support and willingness to do what needs to be done to keep our homes and town safe none of this would have been possible.

The Alto al Crimen Team
