Please join us Friday January 16 on the 3rd floor of the library for our January gathering.
Robyn Cole will present Encaustic Painting.
Encaustic Painting
Robyn Cole is an award-winning mixed media artist based out of Boquete and Glendale, California. Her main focus is "Encaustic Painting".
As a painter in the contemporary style, I am a process artist. I invite people to see the whole process of the work, to see every stroke, every color choice, every line. Materiality or physicality is what resonates with me. Therefore, as a "mark maker", I work in the encaustic medium, which allows me to present my message in that way. Encaustic is the most ancient of painting techniques. Derived from the Greek word "enkaustikos", it means "to burn in". Hot beeswax is melted with resin and color pigments to form the paint. I apply many layers of the hot, molten paint on a wood support, fusing each layer to the underlying one with a torch, hot iron or heat gun. This produces a painting that can never fade, since the colors are permanently locked in the wax/resin. To learn more about Robyn and her work visit her at www.robyncoleartworks.com
We will also have our regular feature of "Look what I found". Members are encouraged to share interesting web sites, artists, tools, processes or anything art-related they have discovered.
We hope to see you all at the gathering which begins at 10:30.
