We Moved!
We are pleased to announce our recent move to the massive and beautiful Batipa Peninsula in the Gulf of Chiriqui. This move not only involves a relocation but a meaningful new partnership. We are now working with the award winning, internationally accredited University of OTEIMA located in David.
Day Guests?
At our new and improved facilities we welcome those individuals who would like to learn about our research, view the animals, and explore the Batipa Wildlife Preserve. We will be taking day guest reservations on Fridays only. Tours start at 10 am and complete 12 pm. You can access us by boat or a car with clearance. Join the biologists for lunch afterwards or bring your own for a picnic on the coast. A minimum donation of $25 is asked of each visitor. If you are looking for an internship please contact us at info@alouattasanctuary.org
Creating a Culture of Conservation
We hope our union with OTEIMA will help save precious wildlife, facilitate indigenous empowerment, repopulate species, and reforest jungles thereby cultivating a much needed culture of conservation. This partnership will be the foundation for the Batipa Field Institute, a center for research and education in conservation of biodiversity and sustainability. BFI programs engage in groundbreaking research conducted by an international faculty to boost efforts to create more local conservation programs. Our goal is not only to promote environmental sustainability but also help create sustainable livelihoods and social equity in Chiriqui.
Get Involved...
We are very busy with our research and projects. WE need your help! At this time there are many ways you can be involved.
• If you are a biologist, researcher, conservationist or all three apply to our internship program by sending us your CV, cover letter, and references.
• We also offer one week volunteer positions. For more information click here.
• If you have the means but no the time, your donations go a long way! you can make donations here.
• If none of those options are for you, please follow us on Facebook and tell your friends and family our story.
The Batipa Field Institute hosts visiting students and researchers from around the globe. On the 4,000 hectare peninsula one can only begin to imagine the possible subjects of research. School programs, semester abroad participants, and conservation researchers are able to make meaningful contributions to ongoing conservation efforts. Visitors are invited to participate in ongoing projects as well as contribute to short term accomplishments. Some of our specific areas of research include:
• Primate conservation strategies
• Behavioral ecology
• Primate cognition
• Wildlife Population monitoring
• Wildlife rehabilitation
• Zoological enrichment
• Indigenous sustainable livelihoods
• Community conservation
